Newcomer / Intro Entering the cube

Okay, I can land and enter the Cube and I know that I have to find the entrance, but...

1) It takes for me up to 4 minutes flying around the cube and finding the intrance
2) Is there a faster way to fly to the dot?
3) Usually I fly slowly into the direction of the slot, but it's moving and then I need to fly back and wait until it rotates again into the correct position.
4) If I get too close usually I get kinda lost on its surface

Help! What is your strategy?

1. While still in supercruise, get between the station and the body it's orbiting. Approach from the direction of the main body and the port should be visible when you exit SC.
2. Don't get close, align with the port when you are outside the 7.5km limit before you ask for docking permission.
3. If you are correctly aligned, you will stay on the correct approach axis with only small corrections using thrusters.

On the Coriolis stations (I assume that's what you are referring to) - the lights that flash on the corners indicate which end is which. Entrance (slot) end has white light, back side has red light.

Also - looking at the slot face, the station always rotates in an anti-clockwise direction - so you can tell the orientation from that.

As stated above, when station is selected / targeted the holographic image on your console has arrowheads on the sides, pointing to the slot face.

I agree that if you can get between the station and the body it is orbiting, approaching the station then will bring you out facing or at worst side-on to the slot.

If you do come out of supercruise at the back of the Coriolis station, use your boost and four pips to engines to increase your speed so as to hasten the journey. The speeding zone is only within 4km of the slot so you needn't worry about speeding until you are in front of the slot face - as long as you don't stray close to the station en-route. (NB This is not true for Orbis stations - the speeding zone for those is 10km.)

When in front of the slot, learn to roll (spin) your ship in sync with the station rotation so that as you approach the slot it's orientation doesn't change in your view, soon you will forget you are rotating and you feel like you are just approaching a nice big letterbox. (Keep to the side of the slot with the green lights, then you won't meet any emerging ships head-on - unless it's a huge one like the type9 - watch out for them emerging.)

Very much this ^^

You'll need to rotate your ship to keep the slot aligned. Practice it and take your time, it will soon get easier.

The entrance is always on an Axis. The side with red blinking lights is the side without an entrance. The side with green blinking lights has an entrance.

That's the only thing you'll ever need to know about docking in those things. Ignore all of the rest of the complicated guffins that people try to give you. Who the bloody hell wants to try and get between the station and the planet every single time in supercruise? Phaw!

An old video but the principle is the same now as it was then...

The easiest way is:

1 - look at the station and target it (press T)
2 - look at the image on your scanner you will see some arrows pointing the way to the entrance
3 - dont crash!

When you edit my text that you quote please note that you have edited it to support your position.

I never used to bother with the "approach from planet" idea but then I started getting transaction server failures and this meant that docking wouldn't complete, get bumped to main menu and need to restart up to four times. The view from 20km away from a station soon gets old I can tell you - anyway, the point is that I decided to go for the "approach from planet" method of completing the supercruise trip to a station (no need for outposts) and sure enough every time I exited supercruise I was at least side-on to the slot face if not actually in front of it, this made restarts quicker.

So I can categorically state that if you manoeuvre your ship during approach to a station in supercruise so that you approach from the direction of the planet, this ensures you are facing or side-on to the slot face, this makes things much quicker, especially for Orbis stations with their 10km no-fire / speeding zones.

except the green lights aren't visible at low settings.

anyone not wanting to grow a beard waiting to drop from sc and docking. overshoot right into the planet from an angle, use it's gravity as a brake and turn to face the station, thrust, drop and you are usually right in front of the letter box. it's also fun. who the bloody hell wouldn't do that after docking the 100th time? :D
