Epic Launcher kills E D Lancher

Anyone found a setting to keep the Epic Games Launcher from automatically killing the Elite Dangerous launcher every time you get out of the game?

Most of the time, I want to get out of the game without getting out of the launcher and Epic doesn't seem to allow that. It's frustrating to have to spend an extra 20 to 30 seconds loading the launcher every time!

Not noticed that...........though to be fair I'v not really played my Epic ED account since the Chrissy free ARX's stopped;)

On an unrelated topic I have downloaded & quite like the latest FREE copy of Surviving Mars.....struggling to find time to fit both these games in:unsure:

The Epic version of the Elite Dangerous Launcher automatically closes itself right after launching the game. I sure would like to find a way to keep it running.

A bit off topic but I was really meaning to ask, and making new thread doesn't make sense for it:
Since Steam doesn't sell just ED keys anymore, and you have to use it to play ED, as I imagine Epic is the same deal, if I happen to buy Odyssey on Steam (or any other platform), I wouldn't be able to launch the game from just Frontier launcher anymore, right?
If I want to avoid extra launchers, my only option is to buy stuff straight from Frontier store, eh?

Last I checked (Saturday), I still don't need to use it to play ED. Also, if you want another account, why not buy it directly from Frontier?

It also might be possible to download the launcher from Frontier as well. Not sure if you can do that if you bought it off steam, though. 🤷‍♀️

You buy through Steam, you play through Steam launcher. If you want to play Odyssey in Steam you will need to buy the Base game and Odyssey to play it through Steam. You can't mix DLC's in different launchers. It's either all Steam, all Epic or all direct from Frontier Store, which means Frontier is actually getting all your money for their game and don't have to share it with another company so why not support Frontier rather than other companies?

Yeah, strange that Epic does this but Steam doesn't. I don't know if there's an Epic option to stop it from closing, although I suspect there may not be.

I bought ED from Steam way back, when it was just a key reseller. Never needed Steam launcher to play, and still don't (thankfully). But there are reports of some players that bought it off Steam as well in recent times, and they can't launch this game without Steam. Pretty sure everyone who claimed free Epic copy also cannot launch it without Epic Launcher.

Buying stuff directly from Frontier store wouldn't be a problem, but since I don't plan to buy Odyssey any time soon, on Steam later I could possibly get some good deals with discounts. Not sure how often game goes on sale in off. store. But I'm just trying to avoid using extra launchers for launchers, is all...

One reason I can think of is... the price. ED on Steam is almost permanently on sale, Epic gave the game away for free. Is anything ever on sale at Frontier store?

I paid around $70 when I purchased the game, I have been playing for 5 years, for a game I get that much use out of at least I can directly support the makers even if it costs a little more. If I can I always buy my games direct from the makers. We recently had a complaint from a forum member who purchased the game from a grey market site extremely cheap, was having problems and was now complaining to FDEV that he couldn't get it to run. I consider that extremely rude, get the game cheap, don't pay FDEV their money and expect them to spend money to support you if you have problems. Talk about self-entitled.

If you aren't short of money and wish to support a game maker buy it direct!

FWIW, my game was initially purchased via Steam and I've used the FD launcher for a very long time without any issues. Haven't used Steam for any purpose for at least a couple of years.

Did buy Horizons via FD so that could preclude the need to use the Steam launch.

They changed a while back I believe, purchasers of old versions can indeed still play without steam because the serial number supplied was an FDEV serial number the same as if you buy from them direct and will work direct. The new numbers have to be registered through Steam and linked to your ED account, at least that's how I understand it, so the STEAM account has to verify your serial number.

that's very idealistic approach but not what most people consider when buying games. Shady sites reselling keys aside, game being on Steam and on sale every two weeks is a move that Frontier consciously made (not to mention giving the game away for free on Epic). There's nothing wrong with supporting your favourite developers if you can, but most people look for good deal first - and there's nothing wrong with that either. It's natural thing. And I for one don't bother considering who takes what procentage in the distribution process - they agreed on those terms between themselves, so Frontier must be getting something they need in exchange for having their game on Steam for example.

I kinda like it - although i would not mind if a solution could be found

And i like it because i can simply start the Epic ED Launcher, then after getting into the game i can alt-tab and start the Steam ED Launcher (which then i have to close it manually)
Sure, the extra time to reopen the launcher, incase a crash happened, is not nice, but most of the time i can ignore it.
