Epic launching in VR?

I am going mad! I downloaded the free Horizons, then in the Epic sale bought the Odyssey add on. I would like to launch the game as Horizons in VR but cant fathom how. I did find a solution which involved alot of (way beyond my level) messing about with the game files. Surely there must be a way for those of us who are rubbish at computers?
Please help if you can,
thanks in advance

In the epic launcher there's an option if you click on the ... on the game title, in the drop down it says "launch in VR". You need steam vr installed but that should be all that's necessary.

Thanks for the response but when you do that it launches Odyssey, it doesnt give the option to launch VR Horizons. Unlike the Steam or FD launcher the option isnt available.

Two options. You can either launch in VR Odyssey then close the game and launch again into horizons. Or there's an option to add command line variables to elite in epic (somewhere in settings) .

Use the variables /EDH /VR
If you want to switch back to Odyssey use /EDO

I don't know about the specifics of the Epic version (got one, but never flew my Alt since a few months, as it's Horizons only), but usually you just have to enable VR in Graphics options (HMD settings) and there you go.

O7,
🙃

I don't think it does anything special other than start Steam VR and Oculus alongside Elite so that the right environment is ready for whichever headset.

With Oculus, Steam VR is not necessary and you can just enable the HMD (if detected) in Graphics options, in any launcher.

Thanks for all your responses. I have given up. I tried everything and found that its just a mess. This must be the same for many who just give up anyway. I managed to get Epic not to launch in VR, but the solutions to launch just horizons when you have odyssey (in 'epic') just don't work. Again, thanks for all your responses....sorry I couldnt make them work. Why cant there be a standard launch thing, whereby you still log in through the various platforms....but have the options laid out properly? I signed up for an EDSM expedition too....hope I can set it up somehow! Am learning Greek at the moment and find that easier than the vagueries of Frontier's lunatic settings! Thanks again to you all. Efharisto!

It cannot be done. Epic bought copies only work on the Epic launcher as described here...

https://customersupport.frontier.co...ic copies, standalone installation of the game.

But I am using the Epic launcher!

Heres my problem:

I would like to launch Horizons on my Epic account in VR. Since I bought the (Epic) sale offer of Odyssey it automatically launches that. My laptop cannot cope with Odyssey VR but is ok with Horizons VR. It automatically uses Odyssey VR without offering the choice of Horizons VR. I would like to do Odyssey in pancake and horizons in VR, that choice seems impossible to make.

I don't think you can. It looks like the Epic stuff is exclusive to the Epic store and the Frontier store doesn't link to it. If you want to launch Horizons you need to do it through the Frontier launcher or Steam. Or maybe buy another copy of Elite Dangerous from the Epic store.

Edit :Hang on I get it now. You are using the free game on the Epic launcher but Horizons VR doesn't work is that right?

Yes, I have the free game so I bought the odyssey extension, it launches the Odyssey by default if you choose to do VR. I would like the option to choose Horizons in VR as my laptop doesnt run odyssey well in VR.

I've seen something about using the 3 dots in the Epic launcher, have you tried that?
Which headset are you using?

I've discovered that if I launch via epic, log out and then log in via the stand alone launcher I can go for the Horizons choice. Annoyingly I have deleted it all and now having to download again! This coupled with not having the lead for quest plugged in and wondering why it doesnt work...mistaking the controller battery icon for the laptop one and going half mad trying various power leads. I realise now of course I could just have 'parked' Elite dangerous on an external drive instead of deleting it. Am I having fun yet?
