Had a Competent Viper start doing that on me when I hit him with my KWS at a Nav beacon.... I think its supposed to be scan-evasive... but idk from what... and it's not at all effective.

I like your onionhead explanation better.

There was a Type 9 doing the same thing right outside Jameson Memorial last night. Naturally, it was acting as a giant fly-swat for the NPCs & unwary players.

Never seen this behaviour before yesterday, so I'm wondering if it's related to the server outage we had ?

Doesn't this happen when an AI ship gets orphaned from another player's client control, and doesn't manage to find a new 'master' client to give it a brain? Seemed to happen a lot back in Alpha?
