Errrrrrrrm (yes, it's yet another whine thread!)

NPCs are particularly crazy at the moment. I just lost an Asp to a pirate Python. My bad sitting pretty at 0m/s, my bad that i didn't notice the comms while browsing the contacts, sure. My bad.

Shields (A5) down in less than two seconds (Around the time it took the ship computer to say "under attack"), my ship exploded within another three seconds. Not fun. This has nothing to do with "dangerous". It is completely out of whack. I don't care about the insurance costs but this is just plain terrible gameplay.

Pirates no longer use Hatch-breakers, it appears - I wonder why? A pirate has nothing to gain from destroying a ship like that. It makes no sense. They're just wasting a metric flip ton of cash on rockets for no reason, with nothing to gain. That's not funny. I'd file this as a bug if it wouldn't appear to be a deliberately change :\ maybe it's just carelessness?

On a positive note, I've seen other pirates (Eagles) shy away from attacking me when I was flying a Python - so in some scenarios, the NPCs are less suicidal than they used to be (and say so over comms). That's good!

Aye.
Noticed insane damage outputs again lately.
Had my Conda hit for 3 seconds which broke my shields and put my hull to 67%

I think they are experimenting with giving NPC modded weapons again.....

I am actually finding many instances where NPC's are trying to flee from combat......especially once the cops arrive.

Aye.
As i said. They are experimenting alot lately.
Unfortunately also seems to cause some bugs like npcs getting killer weapons again.

I was of the opinion that the NPC's were fun to fight with 2.1, then when Fdev nerfed them with the point update a month or so ago I thought they were pretty lackadaisical, and now it seems like they've been adjusted to be a little tougher just recently...but I've always played with a gamepad and just recently switched to a HOTAS for the first time which effectively busted me back to "noob" as far as my flight skills are concerned, so I'm not sure if the NPC's got tougher recently, or if I just suck at using a flight stick:)

This news is a bit disturbing as I am on my way back from a trip outside the Bubble with a lot of exploration data.

I'll be heading for the first platform I can reach on the human frontier to unload it in this case........

My sidewinder were destroyed by Anaconda's beams in no time! Killer weapons! OMG!

Experimenting? Proofs, we need proofs. Or all this is just a nonsense.

I personally think that a python should be quite capable of this sort of damage output against a stationary ASP.

Especially one that has a less than max class shield and is carrying some juicy cargo and is ignoring the perfectly reasonable requests for booty. ;)

Elite: Ludicrously Dangerous/Totally Harmless, depends on the coin flip for that instance.

It's a working title and a little long but I think it really conveys the essence of the gameplay.

Since the removal of mods from 99% of the NPC's out there I gotta say that I am yet to see an example of these killer ships and I am Elite combat ranked so always get Deadly/Elite's coming after me. Gotta ask but did you actually do anything defensively right? I.e. unless you at least have 4 pips to sys, while stationary, an ASP's shields are paper thin at best and a quick series of rails/plasma will rip right through them.

Also, I am yet to ever see an NPC pirate actually be a "pirate" (as in stealing booty n'all) in the game, they are all just homicidal maniacs.

Well, this has never happened to me..can someone post a vid? A la the plasma m/c when 2.1 dropped!

However 2.1 also brought module damage which is even worse gameplay - I challenged a FAS cmdr to a duel in my Vulture..he said he was testing his set-up, but agreed..so I dropped my shields to make the fight interesting..in under 30 secs I had disabled his ship & he disabled both of my m/cs with his last missile shots..I had no weapons, no point defence or chaff & he had no power (til he rebooted) Game over - dullest PvP I've ever experienced - well done FD..another winner!

& don't get me started on heat!

Personally I think it is all quite fine at the moment EXCEPT for the occasional uber-elite ship that appears. I lost a cutter to an uber-elite annie and there was absolutely nothing that I could do about it. In my case the annie was performing manoevres that are impossible for ANY ship, not just an annie. A light-weight cutter under boost is way faster than an annie even with mods I would suspect and this guy was rubber-banding. I had him square in my rear view and laid mines like crazy whilst running away at boost speed when suddenly he was 90 degrees above me and still within firing range. Kaboom cutter!

But that's life. It happens. I had made more than the cost of insurance already on that trip so no bother. But really, all the other combats I have been in have been pretty well balanced I thought. Some opponents run away and escape, some are idiots and suicide against me, some out-fly me but I can wear then down, and sometimes I have to run (not often), and all that is what I would expect. So I really do believe that there is just one main bug left and once Sarah-Jane sorts that out I'm sure we will all be happy.

Don't whine - just get on with it. These uber-ships don't turn up all that often.

there was a thread with video that NPCs just copy your actions.
I.e. you fly in circles to catch them - they are tryingo to do that too.
If you fly reverse them - they will fly reverse you. etc.

How many pips in shields?
Did you have military-grade armour?

If 0, and no, then this is entirely plausible.

My Asp with 3A shields + four pips to sys has no problems fending off and escaping a Dangerous python.

Usually, NPC's damages are correct but sometimes, you have an harmless Ieagle who is literally destroying your ship in few seconds.
And I stop here as there is another thread about NPC's issues.

How many pips in SYS, out of curiosity; given you didn't notice the comms, how long were they firing for, before you stopped watching netflix or whatever else it was you were doing that wasn't actually the game? Were you scooping goodies maybe? I'm just trying to understand the scenario.

Did you time the shield loss by any chance?

If you are caught short, stationary, did not prioritise shields via four SYS pips then yes I would expect a ship that has three class 3 hardpoints, two class 2 hardpoints to rip your Asp open like a can of tuna. This sounds like it's working as expected?

If you were mobile, had 4 pips to sys (which roughly halves incoming damage) I would expect a very different outcome; namely an AI that's a bit miffed that you up and left when they just wanted to alter the deal (pray they do not alter it further). :)
