Escape and evasion

Well now that Im not flying my clipper anymore, I've been killed a few times by wings of PvPers. I was hoping you all might have some tips for evading them.

I'm flying a FdL with maxed shields. I survived the first interdiction, barely, even though i was mass locked to death (think it was two Pythons and two FdLs). Then of course they interdicted me again before i could make it to station (less than a minute - which is ridiculous). With no shields, i just gave up and died.

And no, I'm not switching to solo, so don't bother.

Can't you just avoid being interdicted by keeping your eyes on swivels in supercrusie? Worked for me in all the ships in open on the way to the Anaconda - now I let myself get interdicted for fun.

Emergency drop to normal space, boost away from entry point.

Then wait a bit or high wake out to a different system.

Assuming you survived the first interdiction. Also you can try high waking out off the bat - most likely faster than the mass-locked supercruise.

Well the FDL has speed on it's side. Not nearly as much as the Clipper, but A-fitted it can certainly get away. If you can manage to get away from the first interdiction (which you should be able to just fine in a FDL with a proper combat fitting) , then drop out about 5 seconds after leaving the first interdiction. Once you drop, you will be in your own instance again, and when they jump back into supercruise, they won't see you. Use that time to jump to a different system rather than going into supercruise at that one. Avoids the repeated interdictions altogether this way.

Tip - If you are being interdicted, you can use Cycle Target to search vessels in supercruise. This includes one behind you. Since they are interdicting you, they will automatically show a full scan status - this means you can see whether they are in a wing or not before they even finish the interdiction. This will give you a heads up on whether to fight or run.

Well, it was somewhere I was determined to go for powerplay. I saw them the moment I jumped in. Edit: i suppose I'm used to just submitting in my clipper, because i could always get away.

Good tips thanks guys. I forgot about the emergency drop tactic, even though i read it somewhere.

Okay - if you aren't pushed for time then you just have to faff around in SC watching them until they take out someone else - they can't interdict you unless they are behind you and the can't get behind you unless you let them. Being interdicted is entirely voluntary - unless you fall asleep.

It's just a cat and mouse game getting past them - if you can be bothered with all the messing around.

4 pips to shields, 2 to engs, submit, chain boost, dump a sink and pop a cell to cover you selecting a system and then just keep bangin out cells until you high wake out.

What others have said, plus drop chaff, almost all drooling gank-squads use gimples (I figure if they could shoot straight they wouldn't be looking for a 3v1 fight in the 1st place); boost,FA Off, spam chaff and some rudimentary directional thrusters and you shouldn't even need the cost of a Shield Cell.

There's no way you should have been caught by Pythons in your Clipper.

In SC you can do the drop like others have said, Crazy Ivans work well too if you are heading on and not in-system, it's fun watching them spiralling around you while you're charging for High Jump.

I found a post I wrote about being a slippery little sucker if players are trying to kill you... copying the relevant items in here:

Advance Planning

Currently (v1.3), you are NOT subject to "mass disruption" from other ships close by for jumps to other stars. Consequently...

  • Bind a key for "Next destination in route".
  • Always plot one star BEYOND your destination in the Galaxy Map route planner.
  • Then, if you are interdicted, simply press "Next destination in route", then press "Hyperspace". Your charge-up takes a fixed time - way shorter than trying to escape to supercruise if other ships are close.

During interdiction

Currently (v1.3), submitting to interdiction makes for a very short FSD cooldown. This isn't all that good for gameplay, as it makes for silly "submit/quick-charge/jump" interdiction sequences. But it's in the game today, so I may as well add it to this list. Submit for a quick exit.

The Art of Running Away

  • I put 4 pips to ENG and boost repeatedly, and 2 into SYS for shields. Some ppl get better results with 2 pips to ENG and 4 for SYS (shields), but I like putting distance between me and hostiles. Try both.
  • Throw out chaff. It reduces gimballed weapons' effectiveness.
  • If your shields are totally stripped, flick to SILENT RUNNING mode. You could drop right off the hostile player's radar, making it hard to shoot you. As temp approaches 100%, get out of SILENT RUNNING mode so you don't cook. Repeat as often as possible.
  • If you have put some distance between you and your persuer(s), perform a slow roll to (say) right, with a bit of (say) left lateral thrust. It makes for a wonderfully annoying spiral roll that's hard to track manually. And, seeing as you'll be chaffing and possibly in Silent Running, your pursuers may well be having to pixel-chase your butt across the sky. :)

Yeah i thought so too, but between the mass lock from the Pythons and the constant beam fire, my shields fell just as i jumped away. Too close for comfort.
How did you not outrun the Pythons with a speed advantage of over 40ms?

and silent running kills your shields. At the 1-2 km you drop out of SC, they will still see you even when silent running with a heat sink.

I assumed it was the Pythons that had my mass lock up in the 20s initially; I outran them without issue. The FdLs kept up, and kept up the mass lock, so it took absolutely forever to get away. I wasn't aware two ships could maintain such masslock on a single, identical ship.

In any case I'm in a Python now. The FdL was fun but limited what I could do. The Python can do everything but PvP exceptionally well.

Thank you.

Dont hypersapce into the same system. Jump to another one, then another one and then back again. Four pips to engines two to shields and boost constantly.

The other option is to keep fighting the interdiction(s). Had a very very organised wing (clippers, fdl, conda) against me the other night but kept fighting. They quite literally lined up behind me, when I won one then within a second it was the next cmdr's turn (again and again and again, etc - I lost count). Nearly sprained my wrist and broke my joystick but I survived. They were scarily awesome and have my upmost respect.

On the couple of times they did pull me out of SC - 4 pips to engines, 2 to shields, fire scb's and boost, boost, jump out system.
