Escape From Tarkov (STALKER like game)

A dev diary video:

For me it's a shame it seems to be very MMO oriented - I liked STALKER's solo play.

I thought the same, It looks great, till you realise it's pretty much multiplayer only. (I've read conflicting info about whether there's a single player mode, but even if there is I can't imagine it being all that great)

Haven't been following this game, until I saw this.
Just...wow

Pay attention from 2:38

This does have some S.T.A.L.K.E.R. feel in it.

The Stalker series, especially Call of Prypiat, was the most atmospheric game I have ever player. I wish Bethesda had taken some inspiration from it for their Fallout games.

Agree. CoP was a great game especially with a few simple mods attached.

It had its flaws but for atmosphere and setting it was top notch.

Bethesda release the same generic year on year in their same janky crappy engine with the same bugs and same crappy UI. But then get lots of media love for some bloody reason.

'Escape' is one of the games I'm most looking forward to. As for S.T.A.L.K.E.R, anyone tried the 'Call of Chernobyl' free-play mod? http://www.moddb.com/mods/call-of-chernobyl

Still being worked on, but it's really good you need call of pripyat installed seperately to run it. They are fleshing out the main story at the moment but it's fun just running assassinations, mutant hunts and item retrievals for your factions npc's. Money is tight and it's hard, expensive armour is not cost effective a lot of the time. Access to all maps from all games is fun, travel time is long and hard for distant objectives though. Companions are good for shifting loot.

Some stability issues always quicksave before accessing a trader or engineer.

Such a stalker feel to this, DayZ too I think.

The main concerns I'd have are that this will heavily reward camping and general play. I think this will live or die on how this game motivates the player to carry on. If its basically very loot orientated then it'll be a more hard core version of something like The Division. I wouldn't be a fan of this if that was the motivation, this pretty much killed The Division for me, aside from finding better loot there was very little motivating me to play the game. Now if we take that dynamic then overlay it within a campy mega intense setting I just don't think it'll be my thing. Russkies will love this though this is totally their thing.

Downloaded it whilst E: D was having server problems last night. Looks interesting - was running around Yanov as a loner. I'd forgotten how atmospheric and eerie the game is, even though the graphics are pretty dated now.

That sounds like my ideal game. :) I'm still playing The Division - the 1.4 and 1.5 patches made single player really more rewarding, and the survival mode (pvp or pve) is great for a quick DayZ-esque fix. Just love the setting so much - I think it's a toss up between The Division's Manhattan, and The Witcher 3 for 'best game map' (Honorable mention to Arma III). The Division's 'fly-in-the-ointment' for me was The Dark Zone and how some pvp builds are utterly ridiculous at absorbing damage.

I'm curious as to Tarkov's map - the game art seems to feature a 'proper' US-style city, with extensive CBD, whilst the maps I've seen so far on You Tube are all 'Stalker'-esque, lo-tech, post-Soviet semi-rural/factory areas.

*Edit* Actually, a game with Arma III's realism, S.T.A.L.K.E.R CoP's feel and artifact collection gameplay, S.T.A.L.K.E.R Clear Sky's faction wars, DayZ's survival mode, and the Division's Map/streaming technology would be my ideal game. :)

Good to hear Lobstris :) hope it's got something solid for you. For myself I'm thinking I'll need to bide my time and see what else they come up with. So far the videos have been very detailed on the weapon realism but little else.
