Escape Pods at salvage sites.

So I popped into a salvage site to have a look for some cargo to grab and there was a single escape pod (occupied).
I scooped it and then decided against taking it (role play guilt) so I jettisoned it back out.
After this the pod started to deteriorate. So then the poor inhabitant would die anyway (super role play guilt).

Surely a pod jettisoned back would not deteriorate like other cargo?

So does all jettisoned cargo deteriorate? And why does those cargo pods floating around at salvage sites not deteriorate?

Just seemed a bit strange. Unless the pod was scooped into some other container and it was that container that was deteriorating.

What would be better, would be if you could return these to a station (any station \ black market needed) and then there would be some random chance of:
a) Some reward, because they were rich.
b) Nothing, their poor or not in the best of health after their ordeal.
c) The give you a secondary mission to (revenge \ transport them etc.)

I know you can pick up salvage missions on the bulletin boards, but I'd rather see the environment a little more interactive.

I agree. I really wish that there was some other link to the existing game mechanics that would allow you to do more than just sell the poor soul to the black market. I would love if you picked someone up and, maybe when they have multi crews, that person joins your vessel. He or she becomes a part of your crew and now you have a wayward copilot ready to take on the galaxy. Or maybe even, like you said, the person wakes up and you deliver him back home and now you earned favor with that station. Or the person tells you about a great place to find salvage or resources. One more idea, the person is actually a hell of a mechanic and is able to upgrade one of your modules for you for saving him or her. I really wish there was a little more in the way of these escape pods because the guilt really is real. haha
