Newcomer / Intro Escaping interdictions, fines and Astra.

Beginning to get the feel of this game\sim now and really enjoying how it works.

I, by accident, discovered that you can escape interdications (or interventions) when a pirate tries to pull you out of a jump drive. At first I`d just fall out of the Jump and have to fight and usually die. then i realised if you kept your cool and your controls you can kinda fly back into your Jump as long as you followed the blue indicater - A sort of minigame to avoid dropping out. I got quite good at following the `tunnel` and escaping. Nice touch.

A question:
Now I decided to take on a slightly illegal job of grabbing some plans in a space wreck and delivering it. However, when I tried sneaking into the base to deliver I got fined about 7000 credits. Looking at the fine later it shows 7 days. What does this mean? Do I need to go somewhere to pay it off like a car fine? I hate fines.

Finally, I decided to use voice commands program called `astra`, it kinda does all the basic ship stuff in quite an immersive way. In fact it`s saved me in a couple of battles where I couldn`t remember quick enough what key to press. Being British I said, `Thankyou.` and she said, `My pleasure.` lol!

Great voice pack. A bit expensive at £10 with the Voice Attack as well (about £7), but it works surprisingly well after a bit of configuring.

Yea, Astra's a sweetheart. :)

To your question - fines have a limited time when you can pay them off. After that, it will change into a bounty. That means you'll be wanted in the system where you originally "earned" the fine and even if you keep away, you can meet an occasional bounty hunter that will remind you that you owe someone money. :D

So i`ve got to go back and pay? Ok, thanks for the heads up.

I hope you know where it was.
Fines can be tricky, because you only see the faction that issued it. If that faction doesn't have a system's name (which some don't) you are screwed. :D

Once 2.2 comes live, we'll be finally able to pay fines remotely, though, which is really awesome.

Yes it will be since I`m not sure I can find where the fine was. Ah well. This game is quite forgiving. I failed like 4 missions just learning and i`m now finally making some headway.

Just a quick tip - when it comes to interdictions, yes you are right. The "mini game" you refer to is you versus the interdictor/pirate - if you loose though, you'll take damage to your ship and your FSD will take around 40 seconds to cool down. Sometimes the best thing to do (and I say this because fighting interdictions isn't always easy btw), is to drop your engines down to 0% straight away and "give in" to it. If you do this you'll only wait for 10 seconds for your FSD to fire back up (the other guy has to way 40 odd) and you'll suffer no damage. This gives you the perfect chance to just blast away and leave the other guy standing as he can't chase you until his FSD has powered up again.

VA increases immersion 100% and the HCS voice packs are both well worth the money imo.
Some are packs better than others of course. I own most but my two favs are Vasco (performed by Brian Blessed ) and Cleo (performed by Hattie Hayridge)

I'm sure most people just avoid the fine but I always feel I have to go back and pay it. Usually in a Sidewinder.

Ah, ok. Thanks. I`ll remember that.

Astra wins overall because you can also have a personal name for her and yourself. Also for a simulated voice ( I suspect) it does an amazing job of it. I also prefer voicepacks when i don`t know the actor/actress.

At a later date, I may try Eden, though, and the Brain Blessed one because of that excellent voice of his.

Thanks for your input, chaps.

Here's a video highlighting how to escape from interdictions:

As already mentioned by Naughtius 'Brians rumoured father' Maximus , if you think you are likely to lose the interdiction mini-game (assuming you want to try the 'avoid' technique) it is better to throttle to zero before you do lose and then your FSD cooldown will be quicker.
One note is don't stop following the 'Escape Vector' (by letting go of your stick/controller/mouse) when you do decide to throttle to zero, as losing focus/track of the escape vector can still lead to FSD failure (longer cooldown).

For fines you can check 3rd party crowd-sourced sites (so not always up-to-date) where you can search for the faction name shown on your left-HUD 'Transactions' tab and the system(s) the factions is active at:
