Escaping with zero hull = no bounty

I've had this happen on a number of occasions now when bounty hunting. I've taken a pirate ship down to zero hull when it was charging up the FSD and then they enter supercruise. Normally when they hit 0% hull there are a few secs before they actually blow up. During these precious secs they escape and presumable blow up in SC (happened to me once), but no bounty is gained. For the big ships I usually target the power plant, and smaller ones the thrusters because they sometimes can outrun you. I like the delayed blowing up sequence, but it would be nice to claim the bounty too under these circumstances.

Do more damage more quickly. Problem solved.

Stop shooting at their thrusters if it's their FSD that's getting them away from you. Get better weapons. Aim better. Hit more often. Don't stop shooting even if it says 0% hull. If they are flying away you obviously didn't destroy them, so no bounty. :)

Not the point. The point being is that at 0% they're destroyed and shouldn't be going anywhere.

It's usually the bigger ships (and hence the big bounties) that get away. Shooting the FSD has the same effect as shooting the power plant, ship destruction. As far as I'm aware, one is not easier to destroy than the other. If I could upgrade my weapons on my Cobra beyond F2 and G1 I don't think this wouldn't be problem, but I haven't seen thing lasers or MCs higher than this.

It's quite likely that the ship was on 0.4% hull or similar. I often have to do one last burst on a ship at zero to finish it off.

I did a few tests on this as I wasn't sure whether hitting a ship pass zero hull actually speeds up their demise or is a waste of ammo. I've found once ships hit zero there is a 2-4 sec delay before blowing up, but if I am competing with npc bounty hunters for the kill then the hit that takes it to zero gets the bounty. Any hits that happens after this do not count and won't get the bounty if a different ship hits after zero. Although this is not conclusive, it does seem as though zero hull always goes through this chain reaction destruction sequence.

Thing is the bounty is lost when ship enters SC and will automatically blow up after entering. Essentially the bounty should still be claimed on ship destruction which is not happening. I guess someone could say there is no official record of the destruction because it is in SC, and therefore no bounty is claimed, but still feels like you been cheated. Especially when you've depleted most of your ammo on said Python or Anaconda.
