Sorry couldn't help it.

On a more sirius note. Escort mission could actually be neat if the AI could be cleaned up a little bit.

As a hauler, being able to hire escorts for missions could be even neater.

As a player, can't do it for credits, but find a "law and order" style PVP group and you might (can't say i've ever tried) be able to find some players willing to wing up and play escort. Can't pay em credits but could dump gold or some other commodity in lieu of cash.

The way SC and general flight is handled means traditional close escort missions are not really possible-there are very few places where you are flying in 'real' space to fight something off while you fly. The nearest currently are certain POIs where everyone is in the same place.

In ED terms a mission would be more like running interference and intercepting aggressors in SC, but then you lose sight of your charge as you drop down to fight. In something like Powerplay it would work, but as a one off single mission it might feel disjointed.

Okay, I agree, for FPS games I've player, generally the only 'tension' in an escort mission is the constant fear the AI will screw up (sometime inevitably) and get themselves killed for stupid reasons. But in flight sims, escort missions have generally been pretty good, even going back a way.

I'd totally be up for AI escort missions. As someone here mentioned, pretty much everything is optional in ED, so you wouldn't have to do them.

In fact, pretty sure I saw someone mention one on this the forum a little while back what I thought was a really good idea, an escort mission from one settlement to another (near by) where 'the package carrier' can't SC because 'reasons'. So there was far less risk of instancing failure or losing the target. It actually kind of reminded me of G-Police escort missions where some missions were protect aircraft, others were air support for a convoy or VIP limo. This might also solve the 'letterbox AI fail' issue.

To add, I'd also like to see player wing missions, where the cargo is 1 lump of say 550t that has to be taken in one go by one ship. Large enough to make it at least tricky for one player to tank it, so the bigger your wing, the better your chances. the payout shared like any wing mission.

Anyway, yeah, would like to see escorts missions.

I don't get the AI bashing. I have seen far FAR worse. In my experience they're decent enough in combat. Still no human of course.
I've not seen such traffic jams yet.
But also .... look at insane traffic jams in the real world eh. It happens. Asking game AI to do better? :p heh heh

But anyhow ... Don't want to do them you don't have to. As with any other missions. I for instance won't go on "slaughter" missions that help some corp or power take out settlements or whatnot. Only "good" reasons. ;)
I think it's a least worth a shot. Try it out and see how well it actually works in ED. It has worked great in games past, from the Wing Commander series to X-wing vs Tie to Freespace and more
More mission variety is good.

Being able for players to hire and pay other players would be GREAT. And hiring AI for escorting. Player wings doing it.
As to losing your asset, it could be like the current wingman system. They're in your wingman group.
HECK! Thinking about it, if you play as fighter crew on a ship you're kinda doing that already. In a way. But not really.
