Establishing vs Exploring

Hi KEBO here!

I'm relatively new to the ED scene. Awesome game! Love it!
This game is making it difficult to settle into one path.
It took me weeks to decide which ship was for me (the ASP Explorer).

Now I'm bouncing around from station to station.
I'm trying to find a 'home' base but as soon as I think I found the right place,
I go on an exploring trip and decide to start all over some where else.
I have not made it passed 'friendly' with any faction.

Not complaining, this is just what I was looking for, unlimited possibilities.
I've now settled into Ramsbottom Orbital and I think this is the one.
I think...

Why settle in one place, especially at your point in the game (relatively new)? There are endless possibilities, and settling in one place cuts many of them off!

You only really need to settle if you're a member of a Wing, and do the BGS.

The community goals tend to be good for increasing reputation with particular stations as you tend to do a lot of work in one place.
If you want to increase reputation generally, then take on missions that are aligned with major factions. This increases your standing with the major faction, which in turn pushes up standing with any aligned minor faction, which is great because lots of places go green.

I think once 1.6/2.1 comes out it will make more sense to work on building your standing with minor factions so you get better missions - so sticking around in one place for a while might be more common

I have a Nomad character who has no firm base and usually does CG's so he's moving around all the time. I have a place where I keep all my ships, but it's out of the way and I'm seldom there.

Not necessarily a bad thing. I'll be making a little over ten million from the two CG's going on now so wandering has its up side. Down side, of course, is you never build up any relationships and get the high end missions.

Or if you was silly enough to park your entire fleet in the same station. Lol

I used to have 'home' systems.

The first was a busy system, not too far from the starting point, LTT 17544.. Or something.
I stayed there bounty hunting and running missions while meeting other noobs at my level.
Then I relocated to distant system I stumbled upon by accident, 'Pemoeri'.
It had terrible outfitting, 1000ls from the blue giant star.
But, it was occupied by Empire, and Federation, so I could cash in most of my KWS bounties there. And alliance space was also just 20ly away. On top of that, the high res was only 3ls from the station!
I settled there for the longest time, earning millions in bounty vouchers.

Then I decided to join in a CG that was nearby, then another, and another... And my fleet ended up scattered over 300ly.
Eventually I became tired of CGs and moved my FDL back to Everate, to assist Adles Amarda cleansing the starting systems of noob killers.

After that, I went to HIP 10716 in a shiny new Cobra Mk III, to do all of the surface missions there, and earn the remaining empire rank I needed for the Clipper.
Shortly after gaining Baron in the Empire, I marvelled at my own splendor, took a look at the Clipper on the market.... And instead, refitted my Python for exploration and set out to Sagittarius A.

And thats my life in ED up to now. Lol

When I do stick to one base, it does open up better missions which I like.
But then it seems to 'dry up' and almost force me to consider missions from opposing factions.

I know some players will reload the game to refresh the list but I don't like that idea.
Takes me out of the game...

Why settle with one ship? you can have more than one, and each one dependent on what you wish to do. I have several ships scattered throughout the bubble. Like most people I keep changing my mind of what I want to do next.

Now that's what I'm talking about! Awesome!!

That's why I like this game.
Sometimes it is dull but then it hits you with something out of the blue.
When that happens, it's fun to see if I can keep from panicking and avoid a sudden death.

(like trying to exit a station with contraband for the first time and using silent running with no shield and exploding gloriously when I completely miss the exit)
