I actually do like the idea of rewards rewarding enough to want to get through the scenarios! :) Such satisfacation when you unlock content you worked hard for <3 I'm mainly a creative builder and it would help me find the motivation to do the scenarios if there was a reward I felt mattered. Maybe decorative assets or bronze/silver/gold statues when you clear them at their respective difficulty.

Reading this thread is clear that the players are divided when it comes to this, and think the solution could be, you can have your challenge and reward, to make things interesting for you I supposed, and at the same time the content would have to be available in sandbox. I will give you my example, I have been playing the game since the beta came out, and not even once have I click on anything other that sandbox. Since my only interest in the game is its amazing construction aspect and being able to create my own zoo design. So having to play a challenge that I'm not interested in to unlock a item or animal that I would really like to have for a sandbox mode built, would be extremely inconvenient and unnecessary troubling, at the same time I would not want anyone else to deprive of getting a reward after completing a challenge, so let us have both.

What about challenge, career, and franchise players who don't like challenges? This solution seems to mostly cater to people who play only sandbox. Maybe a way to auto-unlock it, but people who really wanted to for some extra difficulty could choose to get it proper.

That is a good point, since i do not play in none of the modes you described, it did not occur to me that someone who actually plays in a challenge mode, might not necessarily like a challenge. Correct me if I'm wrong, but wouldn't the easy/hard mode option be or is already the solution for this? In truth, if there are different difficulty settings for that challenge that might just address the issue does it now? My biggest concern and I believe that I speak for most of the players that enjoy sandbox but do not care in the least for the challenge/franchise etc is that I do not want to be force to play a game that I have no interest in to unlock an item or animal that would make a great addition for my sandbox built. If this was a game marketed as a challenge and reward type of deal, I would completely understand because then it is what it is, but the most amazing element of this game is the limitless creativity element in its sandbox mode. The majority of videos in YouTube with thousands of views that are in all fairness getting frontier much of their business focused on creativity and free form building. Not many people would sit and watch for hours someone play to best a challenge, that they could very well attempt themselves, and in the same token, or see how someone unlocks a spider monkey, because after you see it once, you really do not want to see it again.

I think the solution here is to just not include "challenges that unlock animals" at all.

I'm also reminded of Zoo Tycoon 2's Asian black bear - the way to unlock it was via the mobile version of the game, and it was for a limited time only. If you missed out, that's an animal only a small handful of players got to download into their game. Someone made a modded version of it eventually, so anyone could download it, but it wasn't the same, and a lot of the community just flat out pretended it didn't exist.

I agree - that's going a bit too far.
Rewards should have value but an animal is way too much reward.
Maybe a trophy item for those who completed the challenge - at least you can dedicate a building in your zoo to this and place your trophies in your zoo.

I saw a suggestion that I think would be really goo. Basically, variations as challenge rewards, if the community completes the challenge. So whether you participate or not, you can sometimes get something out of it.

Personally I don't care that much about variations - so this isn't much of a reward imo.
Edit: Example: for some people albinos were important when they switched to albino rewards for challenges - it became more ibvious that a lot of people didn't share that opinion.
And some species would be a problem - the African buffalo has been adressed as a problem for breeders. (not much on the market at many different times)
