Etiquette for Match Maker failure in PvP

No, I'm not talking about Saturday night's blind date. I'm talking about that ED server that keeps the PvP all touchy and feely.

Last week I got jumped by a Pirate in a Cobra Mk III. Nice enough rogue. Made me a fair offer ("Your cargo or your life."). Didn't even bother scanning me, he was so confident it was a fair deal (besides, I was on a well known Rare trading route, so I'm sure he could guess...) Me, I was a cheeky monkey with this mint condition Lakon Type-6, A Thrusters/Shield Generators and extra Armor/Shield Boosters. I kissed him off with a "bye bye" and burned right past him. Actually got away with 55% Hull. Stupid me, though, I supercruised instead of hyperdrived and was right away interdicted by the same rogue who gave me no mercy. OK, totally deserved that. Thing is, the Match Maker failed as he was turning me into space dust and I got kicked to the main menu. I run on a Wi-Fi connection and sometimes between the kids on Netflix and the wife on the iPad, connections get lost. When I logged back in, I was back in the system, still at 55% Hull. I jumped to a less hostile system, and fixed up the ship.

Does that make me look like a Combat Logger? I hope not, so I reached out to the rogue with a friend request and acknowledged he beat me fair and square. Offered him my Rare cargo (which he declined - perhaps worried I was setting him up).

So, the question is: Is there a proper etiquette for dealing with Match Maker failures?

Cheers!

Well that's interesting. As a professional pirate, I'd say that definitely would look like you combat logged from his end. And I wouldn't be surprised if he found you again sometime and killed you out of cold blood. And from his eyes, you'd deserve it and he'd be in the right.

I also can see why he might not believe your story. The life of piracy is full of unscrupulous characters that try and game the system with all sorts of trickery and tomfoolery. Combat loggers, disconnectors, submit cruisers, high wake jumpers, you name it, they do it. Pirating is a tough business--no, it is the toughest business in the game.

But, I must say, you handled it properly by reaching out to him. Kudos to you for offering him cargo. I see why he didn't accept. From his point of view, you logged--and now you want to bait him into a trap. It depends on the pirate, I suppose, as to whether they'd take you up on the offer.

Now, is your story true or contrived? Only you know that.

Well played :)

Unfortunately, it would look like you combat logged from his perspective and he might be miffed. I think you did all you could to make it right though.

FD wont penalize you for it though. They know it can happen and won't assume the worst unless it happens on a regular basis.

Thanks guys for the feedback. To me, it's a game. A super awesome game, but a game. I ain't going to cry and cheat if someone beats me. Just like I don't cheat and cry when the kids beat me at Uno. I get that others aren't of the same mindset and I can imagine how frustrating that is to a Pirate. If I was looking to wimp out from a PvP loss, I would be playing Solo not Open Play and skip the whole PvP. I play Open Play, because I also like the role playing part. While it's a game, nothing gets the palms sweaty and the heart going like trying to outfox a Pirate, or negotiating out of a system "access fee" requested by TheCode. :)

Now, is your story true or contrived? Only you know that.

I get that and in his shoes I would wonder, too. Maybe I could have pressed the point by offering to meet in an Independent station's No Fire Zone of his choosing. He's still on my friends list, so I could try again when I get tired of exploring in my shiny new Asp that I traded up to from the Lakon Type-6. It's unfortunate ED doesn't offer (yet?) the ability to transfer CR between friends. Maybe in the future, I'll be able to just make a deposit versus trying to convince someone I didn't Combat Log and I'm not baiting him. Or, ban my kids from Netflix when I'm playing ED.

FD wont penalize you for it though. They know it can happen and won't assume the worst unless it happens on a regular basis.

Good to know. Last thing I want is to get in trouble over something like that.

Cheers!
