I guess this might be considered "political" in the sense that it's something that's been created by politicians but the topic, itself, isn't actually political (IMO) so I hope discussion of this can be permitted.

In a nutshell, it seems the EU has come up with a new policy intended to deal with copyright theft but which also "accidentally" negates the concept of "fair use" which, on the most basic level, means that things like Youtube creators and alternative media sites won't be able to reference material from 3rd-parties without consent and, more insidiously, means that news coverage is likely to be more limited to MSM sources which can obtain permission to use 3rd-party material without relying on "fair use" to do so.
Apparently, the EU will be voting on whether or not this should become law or not in a couple of weeks so you might want to contact your MEP if you're not happy about it although, frankly, I suspect you'll be wasting your time.
Seems like a bad thing to me. [where is it]
