Kinect: Disneyland Adventures Eurogamer interview with David Braben

I like all the comments on there, the majority couldn't give a toss aout kinnect games, they are all demanding to know when work on Elite 4 is starting, I think you have been told Braben, stick to what you are good at and what people want.

I remember seeing another eurogamer interview with him about some other kinnect game and all the comments kept slating him for wasting time on kinnect games nobody wanted to buy and rather than popping his head out every few years to show he is alive and teasing us with prospects of another elite game, just stop talking and do it

Dark Days

I am actually all for Frontier Developments doing these kiddie games. If it keeps the lights on, the bills paid and people employed at Frontier, thats a good thing. Also, it gives the devs valuable experience in working with the kinect and who knows how this might translate into future projects. Imagine sitting in your arm chair with your virtual self on screen at the controls of your Cobra MK IV

But yes, like many on here I want Elite IV like yesterday. This is the title most people are waiting for. The Outsider generated some interest as this was seen as a test bed for the technology that would eventually end up in Elite IV. When it was put on hold with little explanation, I have to admit that was a new all time low point for me as an Elite fan :(

Do I still have faith that it will arrive one day? Heck yes, but at this moment in time there seems on end in sight to the long wait. Dark days indeed :S

I just worry that DB/FD won't be able to lever themselves out of their comfort zone and take a chance on Elite 4. There's too much money to be made selling kiddie games, and little risk :(

The problem is, most of us are early 90's gamers, we played games, we enjoyed games while we read our amiga format and atari format mags with the free demo floppy discs attached and we were happy...

The problem now is the internet, it is full of internet forums filled with unsatisfied man children that all post fury and complaints on how every game they buy now is crap, the graphics are crap, you cant duck in this shooter so its crap, this car doesn't have ragdoll physics so its crap, this game has too long cut scenes, this game doesn't have enough cut scenes... My god could you imagine the storm that would go down if Elite 4 were released? These internet trolls would play it for days, with their little notepads and fuelled by ginsters microwave meals, only to pick out any faults, problems or graphic gliches in competition with each other to post them online and complain on how they want their money back for a game that is crap because it only has 29 of the 30 ships from elite 2.

I used to belong to 2 game forums and i ended up leaving because as soon as a topic started on a new game out everyone went crazy slagging off the 2 screenshots or 30 second teaser, making out issues that aren't even there, just because they think people care about what they think.

This is the fear of releasing elite 4, I will enjoy it and im sure a lot of you will do providing it sticks to the core gaming of elite 2, but just you wait until the forum trolls get their sweaty hands on it.

Agree with you on that one Steve, DB/FD is/was known for innovative games which pushed boundries, Elite FE, FFE, RCT even Lostwinds and Kinetimals and if it ever gets released The Outsider.

It would be a crime of they became just another developer selling kiddie games, as good as they are they probably wont stand the test of time and create a lasting impact in gaming history like Elite has done. this is the 25th anniversary of the game and people still discuss it and marvel on how much of a game changer it was.

How many other game developers have someone like David Braben? who's considered a innovator and benchmark in the industry.

Gaming is not just for kids, there are still a huge amount of "first generation" gamers who are crying out for games which don't have fluffy thing in them (tribbles exepted). It's a real shame DB dosn't frequent the forum anymore as he would see that.

Archamedes, I read with interest your point about forum trolls. We've had one or two on here in the past, but nowhere near as many as other places!
Let's face it, everyone's going to have their opinions. That's all they are. No more or less important than your own.

@T.j, yep I still have faith in David Braben's ability to innovate and I agree that Kinectimals, Lostwinds etc. demonstrate that. I fear we might have to wait for all their money-spinning sequels to come out before E4 is even thought about :(
