European Pack

Hi Frontier!

I really love the DLC we've had so far and I am really looking forward to the Australian DLC. However, I am slightly bugged by the fact that there are next to no European animals, and the ones we do have are found elsewhere as well. Europe is a very densely populated continent, but there are still plenty of interesting species such as the European bison, red deer, the Eurasian lynx, mouflon, musk ox etc.
I love building my zoos according to the continents but my European section only has the wolves and the flamingos in it. I only put the flamingos there just so I don't have a section with only one species, which would be rather sad.

Thank you and keep up the great work!

I also do sections, but I haven't even bothered to do a Europe one. Flamingos just don't seem Europe-y enough, and I save the wolves for NA. I think Eurasian lynx, alpine ibex, red fox, wild boar (found in North America too, but as a non-native species), and European pine marten in addition to your picks would all be good.

Do they keep martens and red foxes in zoos though? I don't think I've ever seen them in a zoo here in Belgium but I could be mistaken. It might just be because they're native here.

I only put the flamingos in my European section just for the sake of not having a section with just one species. Otherwise I'd probably put it in Africa.
I tend to give the Arctic animals (some of which can be European too) a section of their own but I might change that in the future depending on future DLC. :)

I checked, and red foxes are kept in at least a one AZA accredited zoo, although I don't know if it's a European subspecies, or a different one. They're kept in more zoos, but I didn't check if they were AZA or not. Pine marten are kept in some zoos, but they were not accredited, and apparently they are difficult to breed in captivity.

I'm not sure if it's the case anymore, but Steve Irwin's Australia Zoo had red foxes (they're a serious pest in Australia, though).

Red foxes are beloved, however, so I think they'd make a fine choice for the game if it came to it. Personally my four-animal-wishlist for Europe is as follows:

- Iberian lynx (less common in captivity but at greater risk of extinction than the Eurasian lynx).
- Alpine ibex (the iconic mountain goat, which was also in all the Zoo Tycoon games).
- European fallow deer (largely domesticated in many places and a great walkthrough animal).
- Red fox (see above - a beloved and classic European species, even if they are a pest in some other countries).
- Scheltopusik (the token exhibit animal, a legless lizard, and the closest thing to a snake New Zealand zoos can keep).
