EVE VALKYRIE and DK2

has anyone tried EVE VALKYRIE yet with the DK2 and 1.3
it says it is possible to play with DK2 but you may have issues
but it said that about ED and that plays great for me

Not played it with 1.3 as waiting for my CV1 to arrive but played the beta on 0.8 and it was flawless, that only ended a couple of weeks ago so can't imagine why it wouldn't still work on the DK2

No issues with Dk2, however non-assignable controls making it totally unplayable.

Agreed... it is somewhat playable with a profileable controller (like the Steam controller), but it doesn't support mapping in game in any way, which makes a HOTAS pretty useless - you can't even quit missions without a controller.

The DK2 performance and graphical quality are fine, though, even on my old GTX765... the VR feels very nice, even though I'm quite certain they get the scales of some of the ships wrong. The gamma is also rather high and not adjustable in game.

TL : DR: The whole game feels really bare bones at the moment, but it works on the DK2.

Well, they also thought it was a good idea to bring a highly complex, team based, f2p shooter with RPG elements and microtransactions to the PS4 as an exclusive... That's the crazy, stoic Vikings for you. ;)

I wasn't too interested in Valkrye, what with already being able to play the only space game I've ever really wanted to play. The amount of customisation a game allows you is an indicator of the quality of the game. They'll be expecting me to pay full price for it seeing as I didn't want to pre-order. I think I'll give it the swerve.

Thanks for bringing this snippet of information to my attention. Reps all round.

Agree, its news to me - I used to play a lot of Eve:Online and was looking forward to Valkyrie.

I have a Warthog Hotas setup and thought Valkyrie would fit right in. No way am I using a controller.

Blast! Unless they change that, Valkyrie is lost to me.

You can map the controls using a Xbox controller emulator. Works fine.

The game is nothing special, though. I uninstalled it. Nothing about it makes me want to play for more than 5 minutes.

So far the game is not worthy of such fuss, hope they will expand it to something interesting in the future. Maybe control mapping will be added by then as well. My primary complain, apart from lack of any single player experience is too simple maneuvering scheme, so one-on-one dogfights are really boring. Team play is the only way to go now, but for that only one map (with construction site) currently offering any strategy. Others are like paintball on totally open field- just bruises with no fun.

So Arena == Valkrye then or...?

Absolutely. Arena is even a bit better. Elite control/physics scheme makes skillful maneuvering a big plus, only bad thing is lack of more powerful, but not tracking weapons, so sniping goes off the table. So if you don't like CQC, never bother with Valkyrie, if you do - may try it to appreciate Elite more.

And asking for that a full price of Elite is a joke really.

Hmm, disagree with this. Valkyrie is, for me, way more enjoyable than CQC.

But I do agree with that! It's basically a better (IMHO) version of CQC and should be $20 max. However, I got it free with CV1 so not too fussed.

It has the distinkt dark scifie vibe EVE has and the flying feels nice, but it's far from being as polished as CQC... I mean, it's practically a console game as far as costumization options go.

True, then again, Oculus seams to be determined to make VR a luxury item, so it's logical the (flagship) games are as expensive... it's also b2p/online only, and all future expansions are supposed to be free of charge. That being said, I'm not quite sure they can even make more of the concept then what there already is... more maps and game modes, some new ships and cosmetics, but that's about it.

CQC, as it where, is just a small, optional part, of a much larger game... EV was never planned to be a proper space sim to begin with.

Well, the tiny glimpse of what it should have been is right there, in the intro "missions". Large-scale battle with some background story fluff in which players can take part on various sides, like multiplayer TIE Fighter in VR is something I will gladly pay not just 59$, but 590 and more. Sadly, it really is chopped-down on physics and piloting finesse CQC with no redeeming features I can think of now.

Ha ha, I seem to be in a minority?! CQC is, for me, utter garbage. Valkyrie was simply more fun - particularly due to the VR centric design! I do agree that it's not something that'd keep me occupied for very long... but that's still WAY longer than CQC (as a standalone feature) ever did. ;)

I still see it more as a proof of concept, to be honest... it's not beyond CCP to charge premium for that, though, they are still running one of the most expensive MMOs on the market.

What "vr centric design" features it have, and CQC does not? Sight-operated menu on base? If you ask me about "utter garbage", that's it! Try to explain valkyrie virtues in more datail, maybe we all missed something.

Read the section "The art of knowing where to look" in this - http://www.polygon.com/features/2016/1/18/10776080/eve-valkyrie-oculus-rift-virtual-reality-alpha - it sums up elements of my view better than I can. But it's still a "have a quick bash now and again" game for me, rather than a must have. CQC was play once/instantly forgotten experience.

Also, no need to be quite so defensive! ;) I do seem to be in the minority (at least here) so you've already "won"! :D
