Eventually big ships become boring

I used to think that the Anaconda was the point of the game...not anymore. I get way more enjoyment flying my Asp than I ever did flying the big ships, and when Horizons launches I'm switching to the Cobra Mk IV.

Why stick with one ship? I'd get bored just flying one ship all the time. It's all about variety, I'll fly a taxi hauler to Diagundri and pick up my long range taxi Asp, fly it out to Sothis to my Explorer Conda, take a trip out to Pleiades or Orion for a few hours, head back and do some long range smuggling in my Python or Cobra, than do a bit of mining in my T9.

Other days I'll just do long haul rare good circuits in a Clipper, or RES sites in a Viper/Eagle or battle Conda.

Anaconda's not an end game ship, like the Corvette or Cutter, just another ship to add to the variety.

The Anaconda has never been end game ship for me. Sure I'm enjoying trading in it, but I'd much rather fly my Python or my Vulture.

I will probably sneak around stations with a F63 Condor soon. Just because. Othger than that, I love fast and agile ships such as the FDL or FAS. Basically the glass cannons. DAMAGE! And the ability to outmanouver these big tankers. Who needs shields or a superior firepower if you can't catch your target? Would only go Connie/Vette/Cutter if we would attack a system such as VESUVIT again where we need superior firepower and defensives.

Same here, i been planning on going Cobra with full Han Solo mode and costume activated
and in new movie Han Solo is wearing leather jacket, winter is here and is an excuse to wear it :)

Yeah I've experimented with using an Anaconda for combat but I've always ended up just going back to the FDL. the speed and engine sounds are just too good. Anny is for trading for me.

Yup, the anaconda is as much an end game ship as the sidewinder (which has the best cockpit and some of the best sounds in the game IMO), it's part of what I love about ED, I can play in anything I want, any time and it doesn't make one bit of difference to my "progression".

I really like the conda actually and have been enjoying farming haZRES sites with it.

I still have a python for doing missions though, the conda isn't do great for that.

In my opinion big ships should have crew, and it can be npc or human that you can interact with and they themselves can interact with various tasks or abilities on your ship. This can be in the form of turrets or could give bonus to shield or armour depending on their' personal traits or abilities, such as a mechanic, or shield specialist, etc. Perhaps this style of play will be considered more apt further down the line. We shall see.

Shok.

I agree. I even willingly choose to only pilot small ships. Right now I'm mainly using a combat capable exploration Vulture.

It helps keep things fun and a little bit challenging, involving me more with the game. Plus smaller ships are just more fun to fly. :)

yeah in my opinion, and why balance is important, is that its not the ship you use that matters but how good you are with that particular ship. I used to love using the viper when i was starting out. I knew its limitations so could work around them you know? Obviously there were targets i would choose not to engage but that's the same with any ship.

Well the new ships will get a new lease of life once we get our hands on multi crew..
More seats on the bridge, more player- hmm maybe..

Thus the one man band will have something new to play with.

But like a lot of others have said, don't let the big ship drag you into a "this is my only ship" mentality.
I have a few large ships and rotate through them, but i usually can be found in my Asp for long range missions (gotta get that last rank) and other smaller ships.

Fly safe and have fun

Like many others who've already replied; I can fly any ship i want in any configuration. What do I really enjoy?

The Courier and the Cobra.

I also spend a lot of time with my head in my Asp...

Hauler used for taxi service all the time.

Learn how to, own, equip, and fly all of them.

Why not?

That's why all the "nerf/buff" threads are so absurd. It's up to FD to figure out balance and their statistical analysis is a far more useful tool than listening to a bunch of whinny threads by CMDR's who haven't even flown what they are whining about.

If everyone only flew an Anaconda, FD would be able to see they have an issue they need to deal with. How long can it take to sort a database to see how many CMDR's are driving what and to see what their net worth is. If FD sees that all CMDR's only drive one type of ship in a given net worth range, it's pretty easy for them to see they need to buff this or nerf that to get CMDR's into different options.

Come on man! It's not difficult.

I don't get bored of the big ships at all. However they were never the 'point' of the game. The point of the game was to blaze your trail, play how you want and do what you want. There are 400 BILLION systems in the game and you can write your own stories and have the devs develop game content around that. I mean look at Obsidian Ant. He got a whole station built in a nebula because he wanted to. Thousands of players helped him do that.

The Corvette is my personal goal but to call it an 'End-game' goal would be misleading. I sure as hell won't consider myself 'Done' when I get one. It's just one of the many things in this game that I DO want.

Immediately big ships become boring.

Sold my Anaconda the same day I bought it. I never thought it was "the point of the game", but I was curious, so bought one. Took it into a CZ and a Haz Rez, once I realized how broken and easymode PVE is from the bridge of Anaconda, I had to delete that ship immediately from my fleet. There is no reason to fly it. If I want FUN dogfighting combat, then the Anaconda is the wrong ship. If I want exciting trading with an outcome that isn't predetermined, then the Anaconda is the wrong ship. If I wan't to explore the cosmos with agility and speed without paying an arm and a leg for repair, the Anaconda is the wrong ship. If I want to smuggle without destroying immersion, the Anaconda is the wrong ship. If I want to race, the Anaconda is the wrong ship. If I want to PVP, the Anaconda is the wrong ship. If the planets realigned and I decided to pirate, the Anaconda is the wrong ship.

If I want to grind PP rating 5 by buying 5334 Merits per week in fortification tonnage, then and only then would the Anaconda be the right ship. Just have to remember where I left the PP fortification snooze button? Oh yeah, it's "J".

This exactly, It's about doing what you want with what ever ship you enjoy doing above in :)

Same convo comes up often. "OK I spent the whole time doing something I really grindy that I hate doing and now have an Anaconda wooohoo..... Now what?"
Some people do actually want the Annie as it will suite what they like doing in the game.
I am a miner. I reckon the Annie would make a fantastic mining vessel. But because I spend my time doing what I want to do rather than chasing the bucks, I still cant afford one after a year. But I have no regrets but also haven't grinded to the point where I am bitter. . I'll get one one day if I feel like doing that, but I am not going to grind and hate the game to get there.
You can do anything in the game in the smaller ships.

Now having said that I have been putting some creds away to ensure I can do the fun things in Horizons, but I don't site there and do what I don't like, just to get there.
That's just me.
