Ever See an NPC Pilot With a Name You Know Personally?

Saw one today. I won't put the name here, but first and last name and it's not a common name. Pretty odd. I killed it. :)

yip I have, my own name as well, just missing the s at the end. Happened about a year and a half ago, kinda strange but he died quickly...

Hi commanders,

Yes, I have met and killed NPC called "Jyrka Paroubek"...
In RL it is a "infamous" socialist polititian, who I met once in a hotel at breakfast. Back then I was seriously thinking about throwing eggs at him, but I managed to restrain from it. I had at least some satisfaction in Elite, when I had the opportunity to kill him.

Once came across Burn at a Nav Beacon. Clearly a badly spelt homage to Father Byrn from Father Ted. I once met Maurice O'Donoghue, the actor who played him at Dublin airport. I approached him and said, "Excuse me, but weren't you in Father Ted?" He replied, "Nooooooooooo!" I mumbled my apologies and was about to leave when he said, "No, I was in Father Ted, that was my catch phrase!" He then bought me several pints of Guinness and regaled me with tales from the set of Father Ted. Brilliant afternoon.

I couldn't kill Burn, I would have just imagined him going "Noooooooooooo!" as I finished of his hull.

I was once fighting off a wanted ne'er-do-well when another NPC in a Sidewinder popped up with helpful intentions. That ship beared my first name, so it was neat and eery good samaritan. I backed myself into the beta, but I'm pretty sure I wasn't the only one with the relatively common first name to do so.

Over the past three years I've been interdicted by my brother, an old friend and my ex. The latter I joyfully turned to space dust. :)

I've seen two.

There's an NPC named after an infamous wizard and I've also seen an NPC named "Kobayashi[something]" who was, I think, named after a guy I used to know on a forum who died a few years ago.
Presumably, somebody else from that sci-fi forum must've decided to name an NPC in his memory.

I have a co-worker who was a top tier Kickstarter contributor... but never installed the game (and he seemingly never intended to). His name is also relatively rare (German name) and I ran into "him" in a RES site - in Solo - and managed to get a screen cap. He was actually much more excited than I expected. He has still never installed the game, however.

Yep, I've run into an NPC with one of my best mate's name. He didn't back Elite, although he now owns it, thanks to me. He is fairly well known in certain circles but I'm not naming him on here!

Yep, came across a pirate with the name of an old friend. I got in contact with him and he told me he submitted his name as part of the kickstarter rewards. I then had to tell my friend that he didn't put up much of a fight and died rather quickly.

With mine, it was first and last name. I was thinking "no way". This guy isn't a gamer, at least I don't think he is. I'm going to show it to him someday.

Yea I had one not going to say name but he was a friend of a kid who was starting problems after I handled it he started as well

I saw him flying around in super cruise and I interdicted him But just like what happened at my school I wasn't able to finish the fight before the authorities showed up

Back when we used to get NPCs wanting you to drop out of supercruise to give you an alternate mission offers, I nearly met myself. Unfortunately I was a bit hazy on the whole following wake thing so missed the chance and then was promptly interdicted and destroyed by another player. Haven't seen him since then, I do wonder if he's still in the game somewhere.

Why did the NPCs offering the alternative mission offers get removed. I'd actually forgotten all about them.
