Every time i play I think WOW

August the second i will be playing ED for one year and my jaw still drops regularly :)

I haven't touched another game for more then 30 minutes since i started ED btw.

It is really impressive, I never get tired of dropping to as low an orbit as I can and looking at planets.

Though for time reasons I only tend to do it on the last world I'm visiting and I make sure I have LOS on my next stellar destination so I can just hyper out of the grav well.

I hope those parallax clouds get some attention someday, as they can look pretty crappy at low orbits. Other than that I look forward to the days when we might have auroras, and rings casting shadows on their parents....its all so good already I want more of this celestial pron.

The game looks stunning, no doubt about it. I explored my first nebula recently (Eta Carnina) and I was simply mesmerised. Upon returning to populated space I was again blown away just from looking and docking at a station. The wow factor is everywhere!

I love the mechanics of the game- docking, etc... but I second, or third, or fourth the notion that variations to interior stations would add a lot to the experience. The first time I entered stations near Earth and saw Palm Trees, and colors OTHER THAN ORANGE....I was thinking we'dd see a lot more stuff like that- but no.

I really only have one big criticism - ENOUGH ORANGE...what the heck is with the orange?! There must be other paint colors in space stations right?

IIRC there was talk back in the Kickstarter days of using the procedural galaxy (or a re-seeded variant to avoid game information leakage) as an educational tool, accessible outside of the game using a "go anywhere" interface similar to Space Engine. But I'm guessing the loss of offline mode pretty much killed that idea. Which is a shame, because the whole Stellar Forge really is impressive. Often I still have to remind myself that every star I'm seeing on screen is "real".

I was thinking more along the lines of actual in game content that pulled players in towards these sights, because right now you have to make a point of doing it yourself. All the game activities just shuttle you from station to station or NAV Beacons or USS's in deep space. The RES's being about the only exception to this.

Ah, true. I have seen some Combat Zones and whatever the PP equivalent is (Crime Sweeps?) reasonably close to planets but yes, in the main there's little reason to get very close unless it's for sightseeing. It would be cool if the Detailed Surface Scanner could be made to highlight a few specific features (mountains, rivers, lakes, bays, icecaps) on Water Worlds and Earthlikes, that could then be scanned from low orbit for extra credits. It would make a nice prelude to full-on planetary landings and give explorers a reason to do more than a honk-and-go.
