More convenient? Certainly. More "efficient"? Debatable.
Better overall? No way.
I own a PS4 that is primarily used to play games with my Bro who lives 900 miles away and does not wish to deal with the "complexity" of a computer. Not that he couldn't figure it out. He is the type that likes to buy and just click "play" to get his gaming on. I also own a 6 year old "Frankenstein" X58 build that was upgraded with a new Xfx R9 290 that was $250 (Shipped price from Amazon) almost 2 years ago.
Considering I use my computer for work as well as personal (streaming videos, photo editing, financial stuff) I look at it as a staple in terms of equipment. The same as I view any appliance in my house.
So,,,,,,,,,,,,,,
I added a $250 card that will blow the doors off the PS4 I have when it comes to frame rates (I have it locked down to 75fps since that is the highest refresh rate of the monitor) and at a resolution (2560x1080 21:9 monitor that just ROCKS for working spreadsheets!) that the PS4 can't even resolve!
While their are some ""in the future" updates/enhancements that may shrink the performance differential, I don't see my system (Ok, I am talking about the $250 Vidcard in my "appliance") being eclipsed in the next 2 - 5 years.
But hey, I could be wrong about the future.
But I am spot on in the present.
