Everything so small

I was forced to switch back to playing on PC monitor yesterday for a short while. Boy was that a mistake.

Everything so small, far away and the feeling of space GONE.

I am not sure I could now play ED long term now without VR.

Hi everyone, my name is Lupin, and I'm addicted to VR. :D

Had a similar moment at work (approx 12 hours after last VR contact)... looked at Excel and it suddenly felt really flat too. Excel is usually flat, but you get the idea...this was a new level of flat. Flat+.

Hello, my name is Frank. I am addicted to VR...

Got my Rift in June... I will never ever play any game without VR anymore. And be assured, i am not here looking for a cure :p

I can still play games without VR, but not Elite. Battleborn is a great game, and so is TheHunter and Fallout 4. Although I've stopped playing fallout 4 since they announced an upcoming VR patch :)

Damn, that was the only excuse, not to play another time killer... Guess, i have to get Fallout 4 now.

That's a good sign that VR is finally here. Prior 3D glasses EDeminsionals and others were great but just didn't offer what we have today. You'd play a game for a while and think great, but that was about it. Didn't miss not having them when MS made them defunct to profit off the new stuff that relied on 3D TVs and passive 3D. With the previous 3D glasses you didn't need a 3D monitor and they were active not passive. It took 10 years of stepping backward in the tech before they progressed again.

And the biggest of all. It took a guy in a garage to get the big retrobates in suits to progress the tech again. Leave it to the greed ridden pubs and manufacturers and progress will be stiffled for profit.

Come back to reality and understand that there is no 'fix' for this, it is what it is until new hardware is developed.

On the contrary. Resolution issues in the game is not caused by hardware. It's an engine problem. Aka. Half       vr rendering pipeline in the game.

Don't be silly. Put one of these screen right close to your eyeball and you have reduced resolution. The only solution is a hardware one ie more pixels.

In ED?

The fact that we can fix the text issue with super-sampling establishes that there's the ability to repair in software.

And while the resolution cannot be changed, ED has a number of visual artifacts in VR that it lacks on-screen that are not caused by the lack of resolution (I can set my screen to the same resolution and not see the issues).

An ultra wide (21:9) monitor and a dark room helps a lot here actually.. but still a far lesser experience.

I think we've gone as far as we can with software. More pixel is the way forward

Yes as a primary aspect, but there is also lens quality, field of view and eye tracking, that will make a real difference in future HMD. Also adjustment of distance to the lens could improve quality.

Quality optics alone won't help. In fact it might make the resolution look worse. For example, my 1080p projector (120inch screen) looks better with soft focus.
