Engineer just left unable to get the card to work; the PC can't get past POST with the GTX1060 card installed. It works fine with onboard Video or with my old card which I have reinstalled for now. The NVIDIA one will be returned for a refund. The engineer seemed to think it was not a good idea to get a replacement the same as the same 'conflict' might still exist. The card powered up and we could see the fan spinning and then stopping. We still got the single beep every 2-3 minutes. He did go into the BIOS and turn off integrated Video in case that was why the card was being bypassed. We also tried unplugging the 2 Optical drives 2 Hard drives and 2 SSD drives to check that power was not the issue. The old AMD card (Radeon 6850) is listed as consuming more power than the GTX1060 anyway and it works fine so I need to choose another GFX card I guess.

It's disappointing your "engineer" didn't have a rated, known good, test PSU.
It's possible your new card is bad - but without a good PSU to test it on you'll never know.
Unless you are dealing with professional equipment - the power ratings for consumer PSU's are usually pure fiction - and some supplies that should work in theory will absolutely not work in grim reality.

I think I got a poor roll from my Engineer
. I will parcel the card up and send it back on Monday. As 2.2 is coming Tuesday I will probably wait until after the launch before buying a replacement. Might try an AMD card next time, I just need to do some research for a replacement unit. I'm using it in 1080p only but would like to run Elite Dangerous maxed out settings wise to experience Horizons as it's meant to look!
Any card suggestions most welcome

Ok, this is not funny.
I'm back on the old card and now it's making lots of noise, before it was just annoying, but now it sounds like the card is about to take off.
New card on Monday this is too much to put up with! Is the card about to expire ..... it's not happy that's for sure.

It's either not plugged in correctly, getting hot, or the software is incorrectly installed.
Did your "engineer" properly reconnect all the case fans? Are the extra power connectors properly seated and connected to the PSU? Did you reinstall the AMD drivers?
It could also be a driver setting - did you set a thermal profile in the driver? Try manually setting GPU fan to 60%

Afternoon everyone, just to let you know that I have my PC back with the EVGA 1060SC installed and apparently working, although I can't test it as I have a little download to do here for Horizons 2.2.
To cut a very long story short it seems there were two problems:
I now have a new 600W PSU and the BIOS has been upgraded too.
Thank you for all you help and suggestions ...... I was very close to sending this working GFX card back!
One more issue though I'm getting this message when I try to update the game

I have tried restarting the download but it keeps crashing (have I got any hair left to tear out at this point!)

Right-click the ED folder - Security, permissions and take ownership. Make sure you are on an admin account for the game, and it might be worth uninstalling and reinstalling.
Glad you got your PC working! It's never easy to do a remote diagnosis, but when we've seen and been through issues like this for decades, we get a rough idea of the usual culprits

Hmmm having trouble locating the installation folders, wondering if they are hidden ones?
