Excessive hard shelter requirements for small animals

Just do a Google image search for "flamingo nesting", and look at how densely packed they are in the wild...

Apart from anything else, they nest outdoors. Flamingo exhibits in zoos normally have an indoor area (presumably for bad weather etc), but it certainly isn't anything like 10sq m per animal

(the average UK Human bedroom size is about 10 sq m)

I feel like 64sq m of bedroom for around half a dozen flamingos might be a bit excessive
I agree entirely. I built my tortoise this huuuge shelter to fulfill its alleged need, and then I watched it sit on the edge with room for 20 more of its species.

The poor creature stayed there for so long that I feared having climbed onto the structure, it could not find its way down again.
