Excited by the BGS, but plenty of questions.

The other thing to note: FD have granted "protected" status to procedurally-generated factions that have been formally adopted by player groups - the same protected status that is granted to other player group factions - meaning that other player group factions will not be unilaterally dropped into those systems. Procedurally-generated factions which have not been formally adopted do not have this protection. So be aware, it's entirely possible for you to put months or years into quietly working for "your" faction, only to have FD "give away" your faction's home system to another group. And you can no longer apply for protected status for "your" faction, since FD no longer allow formal adoption of factions.

This is the main drawback to "picking a random faction and supporting it" rather than forming a faction of your own. And, if FD keep adding new player factions at the current rate, it becomes more and more likely that "your" faction's system will be targeted.

Similarly there's nothing to stop another group claiming "your faction" as their own either.

We have that situation with one of our three main factions at the moment. We've been pushing it since early 3301, expanded it around various systems, even held a CG for it in the first year, then someone comes along and posts on their website that it's their adopted faction. Errr, okay then. Fortunately for us we're big enough to deal with that, but a single CMDR or tiny group could have problems in that scenario.

Interestingly I found a player group with no players noted in Inara yet were in 4+ systems and were in boom wherever they appeared. Seemed suspiciously like they were still operating.
A point of contact for a player faction would be really useful to see if they are still working, accepting new members etc.
Having already been contacted by one group I'll probably give them a try (and let them take a look at me) first and take it from there.
