Greetings,
this is my first post on the forums here, I've been a backer since Premium Beta. Elite: Dangerous has so far surpassed my expectation, especially the standard Beta has been a real treat and I am very satisfied to have committed to ED.
The development team seems to be on the right track, I'm not going to point out any specific issues that I might have. I understand this is a game that developers are creating based on what they would like to experience in a game like ED is striving to be. I respect that and I feel like the devs are on the right path. I do have a broad concern though, something that popped into my head as I was reading about the Rosetta probe making contact with the comet it will be studying.
That comet itself is something different. It looks like something someone made up, yet the vastness of the universe (and even our own galaxy) is such that a comet like that should occur. A little tiny speck of wonder, unimaginable until seen, that gets lost in the void of the universe. It may well have been unnoticed by anyone, or anything, had we not for some reason decide to send a probe right to that specific odd pebble in space. And that is what I personally would love to see in ED. On a greater scale as well.
The universe, in my mind, is not something we can conceive, something we can model, something we can limit even. I hope the ED dev team also has this in mind. This could go a long way toward delivering an environment where a commander can not only fulfill his/her ambitions, but also feel that little bit extra, a little bit more in awe of what the galaxy and the universe are/might be. Now I'm not saying I have a recipe for how to achieve this. It would be amazing if it could be achieved though. I know for some this may fall into the "scenery" category. I also think there's many of us who would see such wonders (on comet scale and much greater scale as well) as a huge reason to come back to the game. Wouldn't it truly be special to see something unseen every time you spend a few hours in the game? And then possibly never see it again? I know it is a big ask and likely very time consuming. Perhaps it might help if people listed some of the wonders of the universe they might like to see? Perhaps the developers themselves will include many/most of their own ideas?
Personally I would like to be aware that I am in space every moment when I am playing this game. That is what I would like to see realized. That is how I feel ED can really step even farther apart from every other game like it and completely different from it. Deliver an amazing environment and Elite: Dangerous is bound to be a stunning success. That's what we are all here for anyway. We'd like to experience the universe and our galaxy. That is what I hope ED and it's development team will achieve.
