Excuse me old chap, is this the way to the war?

I've been getting some combat experience at extraction points, and thought I would see how I held up in a combat zone. I'm quite close to Sol, but I'm not clear how to proceed. Where should I go, and what do I do when I get there - is it clear what the background to a conflict is, so I can make an informed decision on which side I feel I should support?

I found one system that was supposedly in a state of civil war, but I didn't see any fighting going on, or anything obvious about it in the station.

Oh yes, would this be punching way above my weight? I'm still in my Sidewinder, although its quite well specced now, I'm no ace - but I seem to do okay, against NPC Cobras, Vipers and the like - mostly.

theres war zones in sorbago and jera atm
for sorbago the side you choose depends if your character in game is into slavery or not. mine isn't.. and neither am I.. so ive been fighting against the medieval empire for slave freedom.
what we need down there is a federation coffeshop and discount store at every station.. consume and tow the line.. but at least you wont be a slave.
if you check the galnet news when you first dock you may occasionally see where the hotspots are..

if your thinking.. man .. that's 150 light years away.. well that distance is nothing really.
sell your ship.. buy a hauler.. buy D class modules.. and as high a frameshiftr class as you can get.. sell the weapons.. and you should have a jump range up near 20-30..
put a fuel scoop on.. plot a course.. and go for it

And this thread I believe dedicated to Sorbago event. They have warzone out there. It's a slave uprising in Empire.

All in all it's better to participate in those events that just busting some ships along the traderoutes. A lot of fighting if you want it and huge amount of fun. At least it is that way for me.

You are a mindreader, Sire! :)

Yeah, I looked at Sorbago on the map and wondered if there is any trouble closer to Sol I could visit.

As I say, I found a system that said (in the description) it was in a state of civil war, but it seemed nobody had told the inhabitants that. I'm not really attracted to player created events - more interested in what the game itself provides.

I remember back at the beginning of the betas I flew into a conflict zone and saw a massive ship with many small ships buzzing round it like bees round honey. I thought wow this looks fun! I select a faction can't remember which but about 15 seconds later I was space dust. didn't bother after that. figured I'd learn to fight before I tried that again

Well, when I got home I had a bit of a search on the Galactic map and Tau Ceti is not far from my current location, and there's a civil war going on there according to the System map - does this mean that I can get involved in the action?

Bop - just went to Jera and got my behind kicked in my medium pimped Cobra. Took out an anaonda to 13% and then one of his friends showed up behind me...... 70k insurance later.... :-D
