Excuse me, this is the Robigo Appreciation Thread

I figured instead of hijacking all the hate threads,I'd start one so we can share tips, tricks and builds for Robigo runs and Smuggling in general.

I've only run Robigo runs a few times, mostly when I'm low on cash and have to resort to some dirtier business compared to my normal trade runs. But the experience has always been something. From stripping down a cobra to bare bones (often making sacrifices based on equipment availability and cash, running on a Class 2 E grade fuel scoop can be.... rather different) to hauling ass from the cops and pirates while low on fuel and unsure if the next star is A) scoopable and B) not gaurded by more cops.

Do I have to be as stressed out as I get? No, but I love letting myself. The final relief from skirting onto that landing pad at top speed and slowly sinking into the station is worth it.

While its not my preferred gameplay, I love given homage to all those scoundrels out there running the Kessel run in under 12 parsecs.

Well I wouldn't run without a scoop. Being a Rat it's second nature I suppose.

Here's my build. I also Rat and explore a bit with her from time to time hence the transfer limpets and vehicle hanger. I don't do dedicated smuggling. She currently has class B thrusters which does add un-necessary weight but I've not docked at a station selling A thrusters for a while but I thought the B thrusters would be handier than C for airy smugging docks! It'll do nearly 30LY and carries 72 Tons so does the job.

Well with my AspX build I do away with all that scooping malarkey lets me haul 64 tons which is more than enough.
You stack too many and you start getting guests at the outposts

I too got a lot of good use out of stacking up fuel tanks and foregoing the scoop altogether. It was a lot faster to jump, find my next vector, and jump again once the FSD was ready. Had I stopped to scoop every time I would've ended up interdicted more.

I see the merit 100%. However with a 5A scoop it pretty much tops up the tank in the time it takes the FSD to cool in any case. I am in no real risk of running out of fuel for whatever reason and I have room in my internals for other goodies rather than just fuel tanks. For a 'dedicated' smuggler I see the benefit, I like to do more with the ship though without re-kitting or having to swap ships.

I never travel without a good scoop.
As Father Cool says, a good scoop usually finish the job within the time it takes to round a star, to line up for your next way point.
The Cobra Mk III or the Asp Explorer, does the job fine. :)

i hope they'd balance this ludicrous robigo runs in 2.1

I wish they'd just stop it with the 'balancing' everything mindset altogether!

Smuggling is great fun and there is a real risk of failure which can negate a significant amount of play time. It takes a long time to fly out to Robigo pick up missions and fly them back and deliver. All the while being harassed by relentless NPC's. If it were nerfed then it would die and we'd all be back yawning and bussing legal slaves about in T7's til our eyes bled with our guaranteed sales margins.

In real life everything isn't balanced so why should it be in Elite, that's why a pro footballer who probably left school with one 'c' grade GCSE in P.E. is earning in one week, by kicking a bag of compressed air into a string net, what I (who left school with 10 GCSE's, 3 'A' Levels and a first class degree in engineering and science) earns in two years doing what I do. I demand that RL gets balanced!

I'm detecting a hint of bitterness there over how much you get paid :p, I can't agree more though, smuggling is risky and one slip up on a robigo run means you lose everything. Certain parts of the main bubble generate a disproportionate amount of fairly decent paying smuggling values, last PP cycle I was doing 1 or 2 smuggling missions near Phra Mool/Ch'Iang Fei and rushing 200t worth of restricted intel and STILL watching my credit count rapidly creep up

Nah I do ok, it's just that the likes of footballers earn nay receive an obscene wage compared to what they do.

I mean lets put it in perspective an aid worker who goes out to Africa or some impoverished country and builds a hospital that saves thousands of lives or spends their time teaching them to look after themselves gets paid probably £20K a year or say the prime minister or president who has the lives and responsibility of a whole county in his/her hands to ensure they all have a happy life and food on the table and money to live gets paid probably £300K a year or there abouts, then some footballer, lets say Messi, comes along runs around on a field for 90 min's kicking a ball into a net and earns the Prime ministers wage in a week.

I wouldn't be able to sleep at night.

But anyway back to smuggling in ED. :D

Thats capitalism for ya, revolution when :p

Yeah a 5A is way better, and pricier. the scoop rate goes from 176 for a 3A to 577. Makes a hell of a difference to scoop speed but the scoop is like 9mil cr. I heartily recommend it if you have the creds though. You can get a 6A scoop but 29mil for a scoop is crazy talk, and you lose your 64T cargo bay!

They will be as the entire mission system is being overhauled. Honestly Robigo runs are high risk high reward and I don't personally think theres anything wrong with them
High risk?
"Oh no wasted 5 hours stacking missions and get scanned by cheating NPC! Hate you devs!" Soooo risky!
Smuggling is great fun and there is a real risk of failure which can negate a significant amount of play time.
Great fun?
Oh yeah, it's really great fun to grind for A-rated Cutter in couple of days. Fun enough, yep! No money - no fun, i've got your point.

Real risk?
Just shoot scanning npc to prevent the scan then jump away.
Just kill pursuing npc to prevent him follow you next jump.
Easy as it is.

People just get used to this exploitable money-making missions.
Just saw someone's signature like "My Hangar: 2xCutter, 2xCorvette, 3xAnaconda, 2xFDL, 2xFAS, 2xPython, Asp, blah blah blah"
I wonder how they would feel when all those missions are gone.

So, grind now, grind faster, use your time wisely before 2.1 hit.

Or you can just fly back and forth from A to B over a few LY's buying and selling Legal slaves constantly while watching Netflix with absolutely zero, nada, no diggidy risk or losing the profit whatsoever! At least you have to try to avoid, shoot, run hide whatever to get the Robigo job done.

Personally I'm not particularly driven by money in the game but I find the runs fun to do so do them now and again and a payoff is nice at the end of it!

Edit: Also if I play 'No Money, No Fun' How do I only have a full assets value of 77mil cr when I've been playing since launch?

What this guys says.
It's fun alright, even though I usually get scanned on the second or third drop almost every run!
One of these days I'll cash in every drop and be a smiling fool!

I'm also running an Asp Explorer with a class 5A scoop.
Point at the star on arrival and creep in until scooping over 300/s...hardly ever get interdicted and the fools who chase me with important news all fly into the star!
