Exit Send message panel without sending a message?

Is there a way to cancel sending a message to someone.

As far as i can see, it only allows you to press the Return key to leave the message panel, which sends a blank message.

Something small i know but it irritates me

Are you sure it sends something? I don't recall seeing a [to CMDR Whatever] <blank line> when I've done that. Could be wrong, kinda discouraged with the system right now and waiting for version 2.

As far as I remember, whenever you press the Esc key it just opens up the main menu, regardless of where you are or what you're doing.

However like Rhaedas said, I don't think it actually sends a blank message to another commander.

So i guess its sending something, I was only sending it to NPC's so dont know if a message is actually sent, but it does appear in my messages list.

Obviously my concern is that sending a blank message to someone, might be dangerous, especially if your deciding its best not to make contact with them.

I was just testing it out for my voice attack profile, and seeing if there was a way to cancel sending.

The ESC key always takes you to the pause/main menu, no matter where you are in the games interfaces/panels.

I think you press one of the number keys to get out of the chat/cancel it. If I remember correctly it's the "2" button. But I can't remember if I changed the controls for it or not but that's the only way I can get out of sending a message without actually sending it.

The key/button for "UI Focus" ("B" on the standard gamepad setup) closes the chat window even when the Type Text element is Open.. "UI Focus" plus "Up" opens the window.

Ahh yes that would do it but then you have to press it again to send to the right person!
