I'm a bit surprised this isn't a thing already to be honest as it feels like there are some fairly simple things that could be done in addition to lots of bigger more exciting things.
"Scan life on a body orbiting a neutron star"
"Scan space pumpkin on a planet with an argon atmosphere"
"Scan fumaroles on 10 different planets orbiting a red dwarf".
"Scan 20 bark mound locations"
etc...
Some of them could be very difficult and very rewarding.
That sort of thing. You could collect a load of these missions before heading out. Not sure how the timers would work (maybe a month?).
It would create little mini-goals for explorers, giving them a bit more reason to go off the beaten path or hang around in systems way out in the black. It's maybe a small thing that could gives explorers a little bit more purpose.
And they'd also push non-explorers into exploring a bit more as they'd often be easy money within the bubble where locations are easily discovered. I suppose the tricky bit is not having too many easy money, scan one thing missions.
Just a thought.
