Exobiology and Codex data lost on foot or SRV death

According to the thread below, ALL Exobiology and Codex data is lost if you die while on foot or in your SRV:

Prior to Odyssey, SRV destruction would not result in the loss of Codex data, so this represents a major change in how death affects data loss.

So, can anyone else confirm if that's true? I have rather a lot of data that I don't want to risk losing on an experiment like this.

If this is true, then it's got to be a bug, right?? Like, why isn't your previous data secured when you successfully return to the ship?

This has been asked in a number of threads now.

Die on foot, you lose your genetic cache.

Die in your SRV, you lose your codec vouchers (possibly since disembarking the ship)

Die in your ship, you lose all exploration data.

No bug. By design. It's Elite Dangerous!

But do you only lose the genetic cache and codec data collected since you left your ship? Or do you lose all of it, including any collected prior to your current SRV/foot session?

if it’s the latter, then that’s a major undocumented change.

It sounds like you’re not sure yourself. Have any of those other threads been able to confirm this?

You lose all of your genetic cache - including past data. Been there, got the t-shirt, sadly. See the first set of expedition posts in my sig. Ended with SRV death - lost everything.

Edit: Sat next to a dormant Lava Vent and went AFK. Returned to the rebuy screen.

Ok, so let me just double check I’ve understood this correctly - codex data, which is tied to your ship in Horizons, is now tied to your SRV/Feet in Odyssey.

is that correct?

Even codex data that was never collected in the SRV/Feet in the first place (i.e. using the composition scanner on your ship)?

so if your SRV gets destroyed, you lose not only the codex data collected during that SRV/Feet session, but also all Codex data previously collected that has not yet been sold.

Is that correct?

Everything - past and present genetic data is lost completely, all of it, when you die on foot.

Codex Vouchers plus all genetic data - which is what you get for each bio and geo scan - that you have gathered since you disembarked (this is the unclear bit) is lost if you lose the SRV whilst in it.

Everything and the kitchen sink, cart data, codex vouchers, genetic data, is lost if you lose your ship whilst in it.

Is that clearer?

Hmm...a bit. I always accepted that ship destruction resulted in losing everything not sold up to that point.

The unclear bit I've emphasised in your post above is the part I'd really like to get some clarity on though i.e. does losing your SRV also result in you losing all codex data collected during that SRV session AND all data collected prior to that session, even if it was collected in the ship? If we do lose it all, then that has surely got to be a bug, because it doesn't happen that way in Horizons - why would they change it?

The genetic data...yeeaaa, that seems kind of dodgy. It implies that it's stored in the suit, but why wouldn't returning to the ship lock it into safety (at leas until you lose your ship)?

Basically, it feels wrong, and I would love to hear from other members of the community if they can confirm the Codex behaviour, and explain why FDev has done it that way.
