Exobiology Codex Entry Definitions

So I was looking at my Codex data and noticed some entries I don't understand.

UNIQUE GENUS DATA LOGGED

UNIQUE SPECIES DATA LOGGED

What is the difference between these two entries and their 'encountered' counterparts which have much higher values despite me selling everything I've come across?

A genus is a family of organisms, whereas a species is an organism, in a very very simplistic way.

But the above is from biological sciences as opposed to the game, but it would be logical for it to follow.

Hope this helps.

Say you find Genus "A" on planets "1", "2", and "3".
Encountered genus data logged would be incremented by 3, because you've found it 3 times.
Unique genus data logged would be incremented by 1, because it was only "unique" the very first time you ever encountered it.

Not too sure either, but another user and me had the theory it might be related to the number of unique codex entries you have generated (so not just "confirmed", but a new entry). It's a chore to navigate all the different sectors though, so I haven't been able to verify it yet.

Yeah, that makes sense. I guess I'm being confused by the use of 'Unique' in all cases. Thanks.
