Exopod Concept Art

Is this official concept art? It's made by Ignatius Hango. It could be a taxi exopod of Odyssey.

Update: it's Horizons artwork.

It looks like some sort of futuristic Command & Conquer-esque Harvester. Maybe it sucks up stuff beneath into the drums and expels waste material out the sides.

Yes it's official, he's from Cambridge too so looks OK.

Looks like something for harvesting 'crops' growing on the surface of planets with the waste coming out the back. It might not be in game though, could be an unused idea. Someone email and ask him :)

Those large tanks could carry fuel for the rear engine (exhaust). It's very small for 1 person.

It has a booster and a pair of skis. Can’t see how you could possibly steer it?!!?!?

EDIT: Directional boosters, and the 2x front skis could be steerable:

But, awesome concept art, and I like it... a lot!

I wonder what the purpose of it is. Also could this be a hint that we can spacewalk, too?

Maybe its

Maybe its a FSD!!!

If you look at the third concept in the link, its clear the two spaces are for cargo pods or standard sized cargo as each side has a caliper holding it in place.

Its very 'industrial train' looking too, which doubly tingles me because it suggests FD are thinking about small vehicles outside of SRVs or SLFs.

My first thought was a hover-tank SRV, but the big thruster and the name EXOpod strongly suggests its primary environment is outer space.

Something for mining multicrew, perhaps? Stick a co-pilot in the Exopod while you shoot the rocks, and they fly around collecting chunks, assisting/negating the need for limpets?

Or for working on the exterior of your ship, like the similarly-named EVA Pod from 2001: A Space Odyssey?

Or for hauling small amounts of cargo to outposts when you're in a large ship?

Or some/all of those?

I wonder whether it goes in the SLF bay or the SRV bay.

The artist says here that it was a utility SLF concept for Elite Dangerous: Horizons.

He seems to be a freelancer, so he may be using the Horizons name generically, but it might mean that this isn't Odyssey-related, but cut content that never made it into Season 2, and an NDA has lapsed or something.
