I like the idea of colonization but really dislike the idea of daisy chaining systems thousands of light years at 15 light year intervals. It just leaves a lot of litter all over the galaxy.
One easy way to fix that is to just allow us to decommission the daisy chained station and strip them for parts... But alternatively is this idea.
Part 1) Allow us to build farther from the bubble at a sliding cost. It's currently 25 million for 15 light years. But I'd say allow us to expand the radius.
25 million for 15 light years.
100 million for 50 light years.
1 Billion for 100 light years.
10 Billion for 200 light years.
200 Billion 1000 light years
3 Trillion for 10000 light years.
This is by no means a balanced list, just to give you the idea.
Part 2) Instead of paying it all up front, you pay a down payment of 25 million to make the claim, but then you have a couple weeks to pay the rest. Additionally other people can contribute as well. The initial claimant is still the architect, but others contribute to the cost to get colonization ready. After the money is collected, colonization follows the same path as now. But now you have much further to travel to deliver the goods.
Part 3) Once you place the new colony, the base price to expand to other systems around it should be higher as well. Way more than the 25 million for 15 light years, but not as much as starting from scratch. For example, let's say you're 45k light years from the bubble in your new super expensive colony, the base pay for a colony 15 light years from that system could be 1 billion credits. The more systems you colonize in that area lower the cost for new ones until you have hundreds of colonized system, finally reaching comparable prices to the 15 light year base cost seen in the bubble.
The idea is that expanding to a distant corner of the galaxy would become a group effort without lines of stations everywhere.
