One of the features of the game is that the players together are supposed to be able to change the universe around them. While this feature seems to be fleshed out in an adequate way so far, it is quite difficult for a player to reach the point where they become part of that mass of players who will actively change their surrounding.
The main reason for that difficulty, I find, is the in-game group page, which provides no information whatsoever or a list to begin with.
It would be much easier for someone to find his place in the universe if we were able to search what suits our interests more. For that regard, group leaders should be able to set these parameters:
a) Affiliation preference (extra if we had an indicator whether that preference is absolute or loose, aka whether the group is federation only, etc) Independent should be included for pirate groups who strive to have anarchy in their systems.
b) Central star system, which system is the center of all actions and should be supported when possible.
c) Faction of choice of said star system. Obviously if the system itself were to be strengthened, the group should strive towards making a faction stronger, otherwise they will have civil wars for claim of power all the time.
And I, as a player, would like to have a search function where I am able to search based on those parameters, but also one more: Distance of the central system from a specific system of my input.
It's no secret that most players get to have their favourite systems eventually, but that doesn't mean that we can't work close to that. For example, I currently find myself at home in the Abukunin system, but I would have no problem working within, let's give an example, 50 ly of it. I'd love a search function where I can have these filters:
Federation
Within 50 ly distance of Abukunin.
Then I'd see what's available, see their faction of choice and their government and apply should I find myself satisfied.
This could make grouping up much easier, which, in my opinion, should be a main target because a lack of something to strive towards can make the game feel empty even though in reality it may not be so.
