Expedition - At the Eldritch Gate

Independent_Explorers_Association.png

The Independent Explorers Association is proud to present our latest expedition, At the Eldritch Gate.

The Glowing Green Gas Giants have always interested players. There is nothing quite like them in the Galaxy and they are very rare.

There appear to be no common factors to help explorers find more of them, no common star or conditions that can be used to determine what kind of systems may have one. They have been found in all different kinds of systems and stellar circumstances.

So when a new one is found it's always noteworthy and the exploring community has kept a list of all those discovered so far.

Except one.

A Glowing Green Gas Giant with a large and impressive ring was found by CMDR Kelly Eldridge 7 years ago which was never documented as the CMDR could not remember exactly where they found it. System and other issues prevented them from retrieving information that could have helped to pinpoint the location further, so we only have some brief notes and this screenshot;

Green_Gas_Giant.png

All we know is that it's somewhere in Vulcan Gate, in the area known as the Perseus Crags.

Thanks to what info Kelly has been able to provide we have put together this expedition. It will not be a regular expedition in the sense that we travel from point to point. Instead we will fly out to a specific location and then spread out from that location in a systematic search for the lost Giant.

unknown.png

Individual commanders, squadrons or commanders who wish to represent their squadron, all are welcome to join us as we hope to find the Giant and return it to its rightful place in the galactic catalogues, as well as taking the opportunity to further chart the region. Kelly did not have the scanning and mapping tools we have today and we hope to discover not just the Giant but many other interesting things as well.

There will be Fleet Carriers in support so if you want to bring multiple ships you are welcome to do so. All the services you will need including the concourse are provided with zero tariff.

EXPEDITION DATES: July 10th to September the 10th, 1 month from today (06/12/2022) with a 2-month duration. It might be extended, but not for a long period.

IT'S ON THE MAX-SIZED LETTERS AND THE MOST VISIBLE COLORS ALLOWED IN THE POST; YOU CAN'T MISS IT; PLEASE STOP ASKING ME THIS ALL THE TIME. PLEASE AVOID ME REDIRECTING YOU. I EVEN ADDED LIGHTS FOR YOUR CONVENIENCE.

With that being clear let's move on to the questions

Can I bring a carrier to the expedition?
You can bring anything in; the only recommendation is that if you would do the effort of bringing a fleet carrier (7+ hour trip + tritium), is to bring more people in from your squadron (or give a ride in simple terms) to a group to facilitate the effort. Independent exploration efforts are welcome, and if you want to meet other independent explorers, we suggest you check out the IEA discord, as the bulk force without a squadron will be there. If you are bringing your carrier and don't belong to the group, let us know so others may take a ride with you; you can come to the expedition any time. Launch dates are ceremonial and around events.

What is squadron registration, and why is it encouraged?
Because the goal for At the Eldritch Gate is quite big and the region is relatively unknown, we require a big effort to meet our exploration goals. Plus, exploration squadrons and groups of friends add to the joy of exploration, adding some flavor of friendly competition. To register your squadron, dm me and register your members both via EDSM and our google sheet; no need to join the IEA discord. Once you join in, pick a system of our 14 waypoints with the exception of 1 (in the bubble), 2 (independent HQ), and 14 (outside of the search area). The current claim list can be seen in the picture below. For a list of systems, check below.

  1. LAWD 26 (Mass launch, broken system) IN THE BUBBLE/NOT A VALID WAYPOINT
  2. Thraikoo PS-U e2-4 (DSSA Inverness / Thracian Nebula) NOT A VALID WAYPOINT FOR SQUADRONS
  3. FLYA HYPOOE XU-X E1-7 (6.37G system - Anticlimactic gravity)
  4. DEHE PP-V D3-22 ( Vulcan's Gas Vault)
  5. Bleou Aick XU-P d5-3 - (The blue demon.)

  8. CROOKOAE VN-K D8-33 (The triple oceans)
  9. DEHUE WV-M D7-27 (Two pairs)
  10. PLAE PHLUE YE-A E1 (The Great Harvest)

  12. FOJAAE RO-D C1-1 (The Eyes of Argus)
  13. BLAEA EUHN LM-W E1-6 (Hephaestus and Aphros - Water World orbiting a lava HMC)
  14. Thaikeau MC-C d18 (Final checkpoint, people will have to go here to mark the expedition as finished while going back to the bubble) NOT A VALID WAYPOINT- WARNING AGAIN - GOING TO THIS WAYPOINT WILL MARK THE EXPEDITION AS COMPLETE ON EDSM

We recommend that participating squadrons make their own At the Eldritch Gate expedition channel in their own servers and turn the privacy to the discretion of the squadron (to hide, search strategies, plans, etc.). Individual squadrons are responsible for their own members and whatever problem they bring from the bubble, let alone the mode they play in. IEA is not responsible for any incident outside of its group/discord/PG jurisdiction (Which is the Independent Explorers Association in this case or the CMDR Richard Fluiraniz M. PG)

unknown.png

What range do I need for this expedition?
To emulate the old times and avoid incidents, we recommend a minimum range of 40 ly. This is feasible in a lot of ships with little to no engineering. As I quote myself here, "There is little to no excuse to come unprepared for a major experience." If I can speed run an exploration ship in a day and unlock engineers simultaneously, you can.

Is this going to be a route or it’s going to be timed or….?
At the Eldritch Gate
, different from other expeditions, will not follow a route per se but will have a bunch of fixated waypoints or “base camps” around the Vulcan’s Gate Region. This encourages explorers to visit the region and makes it easy to attain full completion without “falling behind.” Once you feel you have nothing else to do in the expedition, feel free to pass on Waypoint 14 to complete the expedition on EDSM and get your “Humboldt’s Trail” Badge. Make sure to do it before September ends (we will probably wake you up).

I don’t want to represent petty squadrons but my mighty self. What should I do?

Well first
, register on EDSM and our google sheet to have a record of your mighty deeds. Second, you should totally join the IEA discord to find other independent explorers with the same mindset. An experience is better in a crowd, especially for a common goal.

You are welcome to bring anything you want.

HELP! I don’t want to play in Open because some random guy will spawn and pirate me/blow me up/I'm a chad and like to do High Res Screenshots
916847438428504085.gif
. But also, I want to explorer with other squadron members in the expedition and not be on solo play.

Well, for this, there are multiple options.

The first one is to join the IEA official PG, which is hosted by yours truly. For this, you need to do these simple steps. ALL LINKS CAN BE FOUND IN EDSM

1. Register on the Google sheet, no google sheet registration = no invitation (I'm not going to even bother looking for you)

2. Register and have a verified account on INARA.

3. Register in EDSM, join our expedition and have your information complete and public before joining the expedition (you can private it once you pass verification if you don’t want those pesky explorers stealing your ELW/Raxxla)

4. Join the IEA discord, agree with the rules by reacting accordingly and get your At the Eldritch Gate role. Feel free to DM me or contact me to be accepted or have any questions

If you don’t even have a good track record or are a nuisance in other elite communities, don’t even bother, I will make sure you will not be accepted. (Don’t even try me, I know who you are the moment you enter our discord/apply) However, if you still want to go the extra mile/redeem yourself you will wait for 1 month to be accepted. It is up to you to waste your time after all, while all I must do is sacrifice one minute of my time to ban you.

All the official IEA mass launches and the events in the expedition will be done in my PG, no exceptions

The second would be using Fleetcom, after all, multiple explorers are in it and they are giving us a space here (Thank you for giving us a space in your discord😀 ). However, whatever happens on the Fleetcom PG is beyond our control. This also applies to any other private or squadron PG. We can only be responsible for what we can control.

The third will be to do your thing; after all, like, dear
581664938230153246.webp
said "Blaze your own trail". This means you can do your own PG and invite your friends.

Can I join at a different time/do I need to be on the launch dates?

Due to the way At the Eldritch Gate is done, you can join and complete it at any time you want within the timeframe given. Returning from vacation in the middle of July? No problem! Only searching in August? Sure! Speedrunning in September (We had those)? You can try.

Recommend any 3rd party tools?
Anything that sends out information to EDSM or INARA is a must.

EDMC or EDDiscovery can do this well. We recommend both the Canonn plugin and sending data to IGAU/EDastro.

We also recommend running Elite Observatory Core, because it is great for finding cool stuff in your travels and can help you control your information. IEA even has its own personalized criteria for even cooler finds.

EDJP is a must if you are doing Boxel hunting.

Don’t ask me about voice attack because I have no idea how it works, but other people at the IEA discord might know.

I don’t understand or think it is too hard to set any of these programs up. Any help?

You can always look for a tutorial or schedule a session with me to patch you up. If you are a squadron leader or want your group to learn how to do all of this, I can also do a session with multiple people. Don't be a weak no-tools explorer and be a
916847438428504085.gif
all tools explorer
(its not that hard to run them with the game on, even on low performance pc's)

Is this expedition compatible with Horizons and console?

Due to the nature of the expedition being a planet found in the earliest version of ED, this expedition is 100% compatible with the console. However, certain events will be done in Odyssey.

I’m in the console, and I can’t run any third-party tools, how can I handle this?

I'm just imaging two scenarios: one where everyone jumps over the system, because the original commander didn't have access to engineering so would have below 40ly jump range, and two, some independent troll finds the system before you and posts the system, trying to ruin the expedition before it finishes.

I don't enjoy thinking like this, but sometimes someone has to to see all possibilities.

There is no "independent troll" as a lot of the expedition besides squadrons is also focused on the Independent Explorers.

If the "independent troll" does find the GGG he will not be recieved as a nuinsance but a bloody hero.

Glory to the independent Explorers.

I know it's difficult to understand the troll mindset, and I wish I didn't. I've heard stories of explorers being blown up at Sag A by 'PvP' ships. The kind of people who will go to any length to annoy someone. But now I feel they may have met their match, and I'm glad of that.

This is an exploration effort CMDR

The "troll" will be an explorer, regardless of the mindset. And it will do his own research to find it among the sea of stars, let alone his own trek. The "troll" will not be less than an explorer than you and me.

If you are interested to join the effort you can click on the links above. Since you seem worried about it.

It's funny you mention this, I recently did some work to my Anaconda and was out testing things on a short 200Ly trip by Colonia. Long story short, I had just entered the Colonia system and was heading for Jaques Station and got interdicted, I forgot I was playing in open mode, I submitted and he opened fire immediately and destroyed me. You wouldn't happen to know anything about that, would you?

I'm currently on an FC taxi to Colonia. And why do people keep thinking I'm talking about myself? What would I have to gain warning people about the cesspit that is some of the ED player base.

No, I didn't think it was you. But I believe there is a small group of players that take great pleasure in waylaying hapless explorers in open mode that are coming into remote outposts with billions in cartographic and xenobiology data and destroying their ships. After it happened to me, I immediately thought "what if" I had been in the black for months.

You see, the point I'm making is that there are rotten players in every aspect of the game, from poachers to pirates and pretty much anything else, being independent is what some players "feel" is their only choice. They don't know or trust anybody to join a group, it's really sad.

That was exactly my point, but this version of 'ganking' would be to take the fun out of the expedition. OP seems to have things covered though.

We have a few people who went straight to the areas from Colonia or the Core as there seemed little point in them coming back to the bubble just to go all the way out there again. If you fancy hooking up with us after your trip to Colonia, you are more than welcome.
