Expensive Shipskins in Beta

Sorry, i really can't believe that!
It is a Beta and you would have to pay up to 4,50€ for 1 skin? that is really crazy and throws a whole new light on the game and its future download content policy...
I am already starting to regret my purchase...
Damn it i love this game and its ambitions, but...

I know, those nasty devs MAKING us buy those skins! Preposterous! I mean if they just stopped making us we could, I don't know, not buy them...

Chin up lad .. the gun to your head forcing you to buy them is imaginary

There are 2 tiers of optional vanity skins right now.

I expect over time there will be more skins, coupled with bobbleheads; decals; hopefully laser beams; etc; etc.

I also expect that some/all of these will be purchasable in game using credits.

To be honest, such things were a part of every game in the past...if u want to be "unique" nowadays u have to buy, buy and buy...
I never said u MUST buy it, but srsly u already pay for expansions, for features they were included in previous elite games, from beginning

I am of the opinion that kudos to Frontier are due for making the skins available so early in the game. Frontier have set their stall out, and if end users have a desire to indulge, who am I to cast aspersions if it supports further development?

Can't comment about Elite 2/3 but in Classic Elite there were no skins. Only a Cobra.

The all-expansion pass was for "major" expansions (I believe it said) and I guess FD are classing vanity items as non-major. (Not really much effort in comparison goes into them - they're only really paint jobs)

Besides - I did say that some/all will be available in game for credits

If it is just for supporting development i can understand it!
But if there is no way in the final product to get "unique", i would be rly dissapointed, just my opinion

this sentence clearly was related on the planetary landing stuff, dont get me wrong!
that would be nice, and would have nothing to complain!

Ah sorry .. well again in Elite there was no planetary landing, that came in Frontier (Elite 2) and FD have said that will come in an expansion - the rational was that they wanted to do it right .. fair play - personally I can do without it myself (never saw the point) but I can almost guarantee if FD ask the masses that will be requested first

I don't think that is the point. Many have expressed the feeling they would like to buy skins, but feel they are far to expensive for skins that can only be used on one single ship model. I tend to agree.
Of course I can refrain from buying these skins, and I certainly will, but as I said that is not really what this is about.
I would have agreed to pay 4 euros if I could use a skin on all the ship models. That seems fair. The current sales model, I feel, is not.

If FD can make some profit from this good on them, more ED revenue means more ED as I see it.

Personally I would be far more inclined to purchase skinning templates for ships so custom art could be made or downloaded and then applied. I also think that the ability to see your snazzy new threads is a must (beyond in the outfitting menu) so back to the external view debate for that !

Expensive? What? Also purchasable skins have been on the cards for months, but if you think paying £2 for a skin is bad don't go over to the StarCitizen website, they charge hundreds for their extra content.

It a 80's game so it all about greed, so ok if you like the skins that's fair enough but what gets me is you don't even get to see them.

Have there been an official announcement regarding this? If there indeed will be a way to acquire them with ingame credits then I'm fine with it, but if they will only be available for real money then I'm not. Either way though it does seem like a bit of a free to play model, so I can understand some being a little bothered by it.

I hope we can at least have different colours with in game credits, nothing fancy needed for me.

In Frontier you would have to shop around to find a ship you could buy in the colour you wanted, that's fine with me

1. No one forces you to buy skins.
2. Skins do not offer any gameplay advantage.
3. There were 2 polls the first one in DDA and the second in Private Backers sub-forum regards the prices of the skins and the results look pretty much similar:
