If they now that they're funded actually go against what they said during the kickstarter then that will make the whole situation a bit worse. I think an official explanation is in order. That's the least they can do. There's nothing deserving of an uproar or anything even close to it, but I don't blame people for being a bit unnerved.

David Braben has always been a gamer-oriented developer... he makes the games HE wants to play, and frankly, if the current long term development plans become a reality, we are getting a LOT of game for our money (thinking EVE here). As many have said: No-one is holding a gun to your head.
It might be nice if the skins were transferable to upgraded ships... and I would dearly LOVE to see the opportunity to apply our own paint-jobs/tranfers etc. But for now; if you don't want to pay for a ship skin... don't.
