Experienced Elite In The CV1 Last Night

Hi all,

My Rift CV1 turned up yesterday. Much better than the DK2. Screen door is 90% gone, however lots of glare on the loading/options screens. Not really a problem during gameplay. I was almost maxed out on a GTX 780Ti and it was very playable, very little slowdown. The only jitter i noticed was because i was using the Oculus Camera in a USB 2.0 port, but even then it was rare. Turns out it didn't like my USB 3.0 ports. Ordered a USB 3.0 expansion card recommended by Oculus.

I was expecting to get sick in the buggy, but i was fine. :)

I was able to walk to the full length of the cable without any problems and found previously if i moved too far, or extreme in the DK2 i would lose tracking. Not now, at one point i was looking around at extreme angles quite a distance from my pilots chair.

How is the black smearing fanomanon on the CV1?

Didn't see any.

Did you use the options to keep the camera level when driving the SRV? I've tried them with normal monitor using TrackIR and I like playing like that.

How is reading the panels? Is it much better than DK2?

No, just left it as the default camera. Panels are readable without leaning. Only negatives are the glare (Mostly on the options, white text on black background) and the sweet spot is not huge, so if the Rift is not sitting well on your face you will see blur until you adjust it.

I was above VR High, left Ambient Occulsion off. Had AA as FXAA. I don't think i was getting 90fps on the planets, but it didn't feel bad.

How did you position the sensor?
I noticed one thing, people are placing the camere near monitor, facing directly the user, so if the user moves left or right he can easily go out of the FOW of the sensor.
Why not placing it at 45° on a wall angle? Like this would be impossible to go out of the FOW, because the wall will stop you.
Is It possible to try? I'm Out and maybe the air inside Airplanes make me have this ideas :D :D :D

Black Smearing is a defect of the Amoled Panels. only way to kill it is to say goodbye to total Blacks, that switches off the single A-LED.

My camera is placed about 1 foot to the left of my monitor. I have the camera point about 45deg to face me.

I mean if you have a space of 6x6 feet, it should be 3 feets on the left or right looking 45° angle.

So you are getting good performance with gtx780Ti and using usb 2.0 ports? This is very interesting! I thought I shouldn't even think about buying and running cv1 on my gtx 960 and without usb 3.0 ports... I love my dk2, but recent problems with smearing and colors got me thinking...

Yeah me too! The colors and smearing on my DK2 is really bumming me out to the point I don't feel like exploring anymore. I'm planning on saving to buy CV1 plus new PC but won't have the cash till late summer. So I'm really hoping some third party adjustment tool comes out real soon!

In terms of clarity and FOV how are you finding it compared to the DK2 ? Also, can you see the individual pixels like you could on the DK2 ?

Yes, however my Rift is in a USB 3.0 and the sensor is in a USB 2.0. I have Etron USB ports and the sensor doesn't like them. Have a USB 3.0 card coming tomorrow. Not sure i 100% need it, but it will be nice to get rid of the Your PC does not meet the recommended specs message:

It's much better. The screen door is 90% gone. Very faint but you don't really notice it unless actively trying to see it. The FOV is still a bit like looking through binnoculars. Not really bad, but you can see black around the edges of your vision. Doesn't really ruin it for me. I'd say it's the same as the DK2 for FOV.
