Engineers Experimental effects

Please can someone confirm that when you set an experimental effect to a module you CANNOT remotely place that effect on a different ship/ module? In other words you have to drive each ship to every engineer you want to place an experimental effect on.?

Confirmed. Experimentals cannot be applied remotely.

However, you only need an Engineer with basic competence. Like going to Farseer for a thruster mod, when you have level 5 pinned with Palin in Maia.

.. a slightly different reading of the question:

You don't have to actually take each ship to a relevant engineer to attach an experimental effect - you can transfer modules to the engineer's outfitting and using a suitable ship, swap in and out the modules to apply the experimental - then transfer the modules back to where you want them.

That is what I do with FSDs, Shield Gens and PDs especially.

^this. It's good advice. I do the same. Sometimes just do one roll to grade 1, add exp. and move on. Engineer it remotely later to grade 5 when actually using it.
 
Thanks for the comments, its not as bad as I first thought! just a matter of picking the closest eng who has qualifications but not necessary grades.

I think you have to be careful with armour - have a feeling it's unique to a ship. And sensors might be specific to a type of ship, but don't have special effects anyway.
