Exploit or Army of Alts?

HIP 97950 is a Noob locked system currently under the control of Archon Delaine.

And yet the 1 CMDR (according to Inara, YMMV) in the system in the last 24 hours, has cropped somewhere in the region of 1 Million Merits
over the last few days.

Again, this system is locked behind a Noob Permit.

Beginner systems are going to have very unreliable Inara data, since that's the group of players least likely to be using 3rd-party tools.

Inara is also trying to replicate/estimate the "24 hour traffic report" in-game, which doesn't get affected if people don't actually leave the system and return (and many undermining methods - mining, for example - don't)

It'll be an alt. The starter system for Odyssey is certainly possible for someone to have stayed there. Surface missions pay out quite a few credits so it wouldn't take long to build up enough to buy a combat ship where the real money is.
Back when I was playing permadeath, one of my starting commanders got ganked on their way to a surface mission (pretty sure it was a Krait Mk 2) I didn't stop to see who, just rerolled, skipped the intro, then left the system instead. That commander eventually got killed by a Thargoid medusa, but that's a different story :)

There are also at least 10 Fleet Carriers in system!
(just seen a bug ticket showing more than 20 https://issues.frontierstore.net/issue-detail/67163)

I havent been a noob for quite a while, and wasn't one when FC's were released, so I'm really struggling to understand how a system locked to anyone with any rank, can provide sufficient income for a new CMDR to buy & maintain a Fleet Carrier...

... or is that the wheeze?

Does:
"once docked outside of a starter system after gaining a rank, your lose your starter system permit"
only apply to 'lore' Stations? Provided you only dock on your FC you dont lose your permit...

That doesn't account for ranking up though...

... so maybe the noob-alt with an FC, uses it as a Trojan Horse... flying out to collect a high-rank squad, then flies them back in system.

I dont know. This is probably all nonsense. Just seems really suspect that a starter system is being this heavily and deliberately turned in PP.

I've seen calculations that it's something like 3000 surface missions worth of merits...?

If that's a legit data bomb (and was not built when the data pad exploit was still in the game) it looks like to us as a total waste of time. 🤷‍♂️

Given that the system is now permit locked (and for that IMHO FDEV should have hard-locked it from powerplay with PP2) doesn't offer anything else than a mere number +1 on the leaderboard. The reason why we (Archon Delaine) decided to support its takeover under the HIP 97704 bubble in PP1 was to demonstrate how it was a mistake to leave it open and even subject to PP, moreover, our R5 bonus (no bounties/no fines) applied there was in practice equivalent to put a bunch of red fishes (newbies) in a piranas' pool.

All that not considering the unvaluable payback, in terms of fun pews and kabooms, that many CMDRs gained until the systerm was definitively locked.

Fair point.

I guess an alt could load up with stuffz from the same player's FC (outside the starter zone) and then sell it to raise a heap of credits.

Problem is, surely doing anything that could raise Cr5bn would give you enough trade-rank that you wouldn't be allowed back into the newbie zone again?

Dunno if the starter zone is "permit locked" though.
Theoretically, I suppose, maybe if you could get hold of Cr5bn without gaining trade-rank, you might be able to go buy an FC and then jump it back into the starter zone?

Goods transferred to carriers are not usable for merits (carrier removes origin).

Moreover, the "pattern" of trading is quite different... even if selling in batches and waiting for the data refresh, there's no way to see jumps by 150-200k each. This is what we see when a full storage of data is being dumped at once (so we are 99% sure that the "bomb" has been prepped with data).

Seems like a LOT of trouble that only hardcore PowerPlayers would do - just to oust the Spider from that system.
I'm not familiar with the organized side of PowerPlay, but didn't Patreus get finessed for a lot of systems by Delaine recently?
Maybe they're focused on an unusual and laborious form of symbolic payback.

(edit) Actually -- crunching the numbers using a medium-sized Power as reference the Top 10 of Patreus could have done this.
The merit quantity matches. Add in the Top 5% and it's easily possible.

It seems hard to believe it's done by newbies all deciding to do PowerPlay stuff in the starter system right after beginning to play the game.

Still it's an indication of something very fishy. Snipes are done by groups and that snipe means someone stored a lot of data (considerable bigger than the snipes I know of) or something fishy that might not be covered by the terms of service happened there.

Not only that, you actually need to bring that data to your own control system. And once you get any rank you can go to or from that HIP.

There's two possibilities here.

It's legit, in which case they're putting in a lot of effort with alts to farm a full inventory of data which they then have to reset their account to get back into the system to turn it in - which is extremely funny since the permit lock has effectively stopped it being a gank hangout.

Or it's not legit and they're using some exploit or similar to spawn in merits similar to what happened when a particular streamer encountered a blatantly-cheated oneshotting DBX that simultaneously put 65k undermining merits there in the first weeks of powerplay, in which case... holy moly my sides you found a way to cheat powerplay and THAT is what you blow it on?

We all hope that these critters come out from their stone to brag about such an outstanding victory (lol!) against ebil gankurs :p
