Exploratation : Penetrative Scans

I see no reason why they could not pitch the implementation of the level 2 and level 3 scans as software and/or hardware upgrades which you first have to purchase.

As this is a new version of the software/hardware with new features, they have not been implemented yet so there is NO data in the cartography network.

This means all system, scanned or otherwise are up for a first finder bonus as well as those who follow behind as per the normal rules of exploration.

See it as a way to reinvicerate interest into exploring the local and further afield areas.

Add the level 2 scan in 6 months time. Level 3 6 months after that and suddenly, you will have another reason to go around the galaxy IF money is a driver for you.

I think, if done this way, it would be good for explorers.

It would expand the number leaving the human bubble, making it seem more realistic. After the first explorer came back from the South Americas with tales of wonder, a few others thought it would be worth having a look. As more and more came back, more left, trade developed, pirating followed...

So, link outpost development to goldilocks level 3 scans, and push the system out.

Say, 1000 unique level 3 scans of the same high metal world triggers the building of an outpost to exploit the body, limit it to within 65 lys of 10 other developed system to stop the straight line bunny hop to nowhere.

I do hope that instead of adding modules that require additional slots, they can combine the modules. Say Advanced Discovery Scanner AND Detailed Surface Scanner into a single module slot. I can see the added power requirement but not have a module that takes up less than 2 cargo be forced to take up something that gives 8 or 16... That is just asinine with the way it currently is.

Although, to be fair, spare slots are not a problem for the explorer.

I have 4 A3 AFM in my explorer asp.

More detailed scans should be both a reward and a cost. You want 3x the explorer credit, you need to use up another slot.

Did today's patch change the level counts for anyone that matches or correlates to a penetrative scan?
I have 1,627 level 2 scans which sort of matches how many DSS I have done.

So after two pages of witty punnary you still don't know why they are hesitating to implement this?

Seems all too obvious to me. :)

*sigh* and here i was hopeful that they will finally add some interactivity to the whole scanning business. Oh well....

Perhaps not, but they are on the Diamondback. Now, in order to have an exploring Diamondback, you have your shields, fuel scoop, Advanced Discovery scanner, and detailed surface scanner and.... Nothing else. No cargo, no cells, hull, no Auto Field Maintenance unit, nothing. This, for an explorer ship? Even a small one?

Let's look at the Diamondback Scout, shall we? In the explorer version, We have 2 one ton modules taking up 5 tons of space. There SHOULD be a dedicated scanner module with the ability to add as many options that could be fitted within it. The way it currently is, is plain idiocy.
