Exploration advice

A friend and i are wanting to explore deep space for ourselves and i've tried researching ship loadouts, dangers to be aware of and many other things. Then it occurred to me where the heck do we even start?,both of us are in Asellus Primus and outfitting our ships preparing to head out but what direction...lol.Where does one start is my question and is there a good chance to find unexplored planets,so i'm just throwing it out there if anyone is willing to help and it would be very very helpful or any helpful advice in general.Thank you.

There are many, many, many unexplored systems. Everything that's been explored by all the players is barely enough to be counted as a fraction of a percent of the galaxy. The direct routes from the bubble to obvious nebulae are fairly well trodden but go up or down and you should find untagged bodies or systems within a few hundred ly. Once you get a few thousand ly out then actually seeing a tag becomes an event because it's so rare unless you're at an obvious tourist destination.

Check the Exploration Guides/Lists/Tools sticky at the top of this forum for a host of useful guides and info - and if you've still got questions after you've read that then ask away, someone will be sure to help you out.

If it's your first trip try something small - say a 15-20kly round trip to check you enjoy it. Going in the direction of Barnard's Loop gives you a cornucopia of brilliant views

and things to see or check out Veil Nebula West - probably my favourite nebula, looks like some kind of galactically scaled nougat treat. Both nebula names are searchable on the galmap.

Head into the black, send us pictures and most importantly have fun :D

What are you looking to accomplish?

I ask because finding unclaimed bodies is generally pretty easy once you go 2,000 LY out from the bubble; bodies of value are a bit trickier. Less than .1% of the galaxy has been explored, and we have been clumping up a fair amount, what with expeditions. If you aren't doing a bucket list, though, pick a direction and go.

Do your scans within 2,000 LS of each other to both get the credit.

If you publish a budget, we can make recommendations on ship fits.

Thats awsome!! work Katejina this will definitely help holy cow!!..thank you!.

We both just want to find unexplored planets and just plain explore really,we both have fitted our Asp's 31 to 32 lyrs jump range, and loaded out the best we could and hope for the best outcome.no bucket list.

Yeah that's pretty much what we want to find..we're pretty much burnt out on everything else here game play wise,i've tried mining to no avail, trading is a interdiction nightmare as with mining and bounty hunting has lost it's luster so to say...lol.sorry for the short rant but yes THIS would be awesome to find.

We both have Asp's already loaded out to what we could afford which isn't really bad, he's got 31 jump range and i got 32 jump lyrs. But unclaimed bodies is really what i'm after myself. So we just pick a direction and go?...i'm actually getting nervous about all this..lol!.

Approximately 4,500 ly out from Pienate in my Viper Mk IV. Yeah, not every ones first pick. Still, I have enough room for everything needed including repair and I am really in no hurry. Jump is about 20 ly. Look at it this way, all you long legged galutes are jumping over systems that I am finding un-named. Plenty of good scans of quality systems untouched. Nice thing is when I get back to the fringes of the bubble, I reach over and fire up the shield generator and weapons and I WILL be keeping my long hard earned data. Heading to the core, see ya there.

And which way to go? Second star to the left...

BTY, closing in on Traikaae AA-A HR nebula. First for me. Looks really cool.

lol. Economy mode is underrated in my opinion. I swear that the fastest route mode makes everyone jump through the same systems but if you go economy mode, you find undiscovered systems at every turn.

Aye. Won't take much more than 1kly of travel before you start finding unclaimed systems and after 5kly it will pretty much be open range.

My biggest piece of advice to you would be to start small. Finding completely unexplored systems is not a problem, but having to deal with the solitude of deep space could be. Just as CMDR Mucrone suggested, try a short trip out to a close POI such as a nebula and get a feel for exploring.

Small but useful piece of advice.

If heading for something shiny do not plot a direct route because that's exactly what others do.
Fly up or down vertically (most people forget space is 3D) or go diagonally in an arc and usually you'll be in unexplored systems.
