Exploration - Am I Missing Anything?

Folks:

I just wanted to make sure I'm not missing anything.

I'm going from the Bubble to Colonia along the Highway, exploring as I go. I get into a system, honk the planets, and then go to each of them and scan them down.

Every so often I stumble across degraded signal and pick up a cache from that.

Is there something else I should be looking for when going through systems? Is there something I should be looking for on landable planets? And if so, how?

Thanks, folks!

Exploring has no "goal" per se.

Some people try to find visually atractive places and "hunt" screenshot.
Other people try to get some credits while traveling. Then you should scan Earth-like worlds, water worlds, ammonia worlds or terraformable candidates. Down the list you can even scan metal rich or type II gas giants for credits, but there is a pretty big gap on rewards from the first group.
Some like to attach their names to planets for posterity (but it gets old pretty fast once you are out of the usual paths and almost everything is unscanned).
Some try to find fumaroles or geysers on planets with volcanic activity.
From time to time you can find some threads in these forums about searching rare kinds of planets, like searching for helium rich gas giants, carbon stars, etc

You just need to pick your own motivations.

No need to pick up any caches from signal sources. The cargo will weigh you down and will attract pirates when you get to occupied space.
No need to scan everything in every system, but it's up to you.
I just check the system map for anything interesting or valuable and if there's nothing, I jump to the next system without scanning anything.
You can waste a lot of time scanning worthless ice balls but some people like to completely scan everything.

I am on the lookout for any particularly large or high gravity planets. Of course earth like worlds, ammonia worlds, water worlds and terraformable worlds.
and rare gems such as close orbiting planets like this or this.

My process is something like this ...
Zero throttle on countdown, Jump in, begin ADS scan
Throttle up slowly and angle to fuel scooping tangent.
When ADS honk is complete, check system map.
If I decide the system is interesting, I'll turn around as soon as I'm out of fuel scoop range and scan the primary star and then anything else in the system I want to investigate.
If there's nothing interesting, begin charging for the next jump as soon as I'm close to exiting fuel scoop range.

Look for all sorts of weirdness. Strange coloured planets. Short orbit planets or stars. Wide orbit dittos. Huge rings. Tiny rings. Category record breakers, like smallest/largest terraformable/landable.

As an avid reader and life long student of Carl Sagan, my exploration objectives center around finding Earth-like planets for humanity to settle upon, and seeking out life. I love finding planets with life.
