Exploration and asteroid belts

Hi guys,
A quick question. I have noticed that you do not get payment for scanning details of asteroid belts.
So, what I want to know, is there any hidden benefit of scanning them? Such as a bonus for scanning everything in a system, or are they simply a time sink and not worth bothering with.

ATM there's no bonus for scanning everything in a system, so it's definitely a waste of time.
It does seem strange that asteroids which might be a source of raw material for mining aren't worth anything when scanned...

Exploration should have different purposes :

> Astrography exploration : Primes for complete mapping of a system, better primes for long range exploration.
> Scientific exploration : Primes for finding astronomic curiosities (black hole, neutron stars, etc ...), better primes per rarity of curiosity.
> Commercial/Political exploration : Primes for finding new resources (including asteroids belts) and habitable planets, better primes for rare resources and habitable planets.
> In every case, a small reputation gain when deciding to what faction we sell informations.

Exploration does need a bit more love, and you do get a rep gain when you sell info.
We also need a filter in the nav panel to remove asteroid belts once a system has been scanned to prevent having to constantly skip through them. It wouldnt be necessary if we could select the planet/moon from the system map. Was promised for 1.2.

It's not strange it's ridiculous and once again we see how little thought has been put into the "game" by FD. Not only are they sources of material but they are also navigation hazards which would NEVER be left out of any systems data. This would be like the coast guard making a map of the ocean and missing out that huge chunk of rock underneath the water. How these were deemed "worthless" is beyond me and totally baffling.

Here's our own system in real life

Want to know what just one of those little dots weighing in at just 200 tons can do to a planet? Just look up that little incident in Tunguska, Siberia and see what 30 mega-tons of explosive force can do when it airbursts and knocks over 80 million trees.

I'm glad you don't get paid for asteroids because scanning them is ultra boring, you have to get so close before the scanner actually starts

Actually their coordinates and location are in the system data once your discovery scanner marks them, but you don't have to do a detailed scan of them, much like you don't have to do a detailed scan of the rings around a planet and you just scan the planet itself. In the description you get what sort of asteroids they are in both cases.

There is some truth to this. For planets etc. I don't mind since I'd like to see how they look, but asteroids are pretty uninteresting. It takes a long time to fly to every pocket and scanning them from within 2-4LS or something like that.

I'd love it if you'd only have to scan 1 asteroid pocket and it would count as scanning the entire belt. And yes, there should be a (little) reward for it, especially if it contains valuable metals.

Would think that surface scanning asteroid belts would give you information on IF it was worth mining. Sadly not at the moment.
