EXPLORATION and WARS! - From FB page and subsequent thoughts!

Hey Mark,

Thanks for your message and the suggestion, you've got some very cool ideas there!

I would recommend that you put your ideas on our suggestions forums, which you can find here so that the devs can take a look into this for you:

...So here they are!

Question for Sandro! - About "home" and what it means to FIGHT for "home". Don't we need to have the ability to BUILD a "home", with a place to store ships, materials and maybe set up business? ....Something to fight for? Collecting units for habitation, power, defence, communications, growing food, storage of ships and resources, and THEN maybe expanding into refineries, fabrication, etc., so self sustaining communities can develop.

My own idea is to set up a mining company, within an allied local system. But to do this, I need a base! I believe planetary settlement, mainly underground(!), is the BEST way of COLLONIZING the galaxy! ...until atmospheric landings are possible!

I'm going on vacation, until they've gone! That or you can give me the ability to burrow into a plant surface and build me a sub-terranian dwelling/settlement, like in Minecraft? I want a place to store my ships and all my materials, that won't be vulnerable to attacks, like spacestations are!

Can you imagine Jameson Memorial Station being attacked and wiped out? What happens if your entire personal fleet is stationed/stored there?

There will be some VERY unhappy "bunnies" out "in the black" with bad feels for Frontier if that happens!

A few thoughts on the possibility of expanding expoloration into COLONISATION!

I see the ability to "lease" sections of planetoids from local or larger system authorities. Here, one could buy and "plant", certain facilities on the surface to act as exploration bases to map/scan the resources BENEATH the surface. Once an area is mapped, maybe other SRV's could be designed to dig down into the surface and extraction plants installed, to process the spoil? Apart from the obvious mineral and water deposits, the "dirt" could be crafted into building materials and enhancements to the works made to provide shelter from gamma, and other harmful radiation? ...UNDER GROUND! This would provide attack proof shelters for settlers, ships, stores, and traded goods. The inspiration, would you believe it, was the need to find FAST shelter in Minecraft, where digging-in was more effective than trying to escape "baddies" by building above ground!

Settling systems and planets should have a "human" element to it! History has shown the first human instinct, when exploring, is to place "staging posts", forts, trading posts and other permanent infrastructure, along our route, so the exploration becomes a VIABLE proposition, AND it is so much easier to find your way back home with booty, or return to take advatage of resources and .....HERE'S THE BIG ONE! ....MAKE A HOME! ...one of, if not, then THE biggest need of ANY human! Space stations and existing settlements are a useful stop-gap, but will never satisfy the NEED for a HOME to put down roots in!

Roots grow in the ground, NOT in the stars!

I am worried that future Thargoids (or others?) may be able to wipe out Star Ports like they wiped out the capital ships! How many players have fleets stationed at Jameson Orbital? Take that place out and there will be some VERY unhappy space-bunnies out there! Just think! if you want to stop mankind "infesting" more of YOUR space, would you NOT take out their PRIMARY means of support outside their home systems? ...I WOULD!

This makes mankind's dispersal to seperate, subterrainian, settlements, more and more logical!

Just some thoughts I had after watching the recent Mars settlement and deep space travel documentaries on the BBC! (Sir Stephen Hawking and Dr Brian Cox fans will find these programmes fascinating!)

Without quoting.. Here's my counter thoughts.

Home.. I'm not too keen on the thought of a another game sponsoring and even encouraging a million little Napoleons building their own base. Having experienced similar in other games; this is -- put bluntly -- a drag. First you're wading through e-mails, friend requests and begging other players in open chat. Then depending on the size and social theme of the group when you join that base -- out of the goodness of your heart -- you're wading through the cut-throat attitude that they can run the group better than the original leaders... Or even better, they're convincing the membership to cut off and join them in their base.

How 'bout instead calling a place a home that's already there. Failing that, how about joining a player faction to help with the defenses of a home base? Heck if your wise enough e-mail me, I'll recommend several of them -- one of them even the one I joined recently. You might escape the other points I made, you might not.. But it's always good to look around until you find a group close to your own standards.

I fear the Thargoids aren't going away. They didn't in the last games they were in. There's always deep space where you can escape running into them. After all, the Milky Way is vast and there as finite as we are in a galaxy 100,000 light-years in diameter.

Finally if I wanted to plant things, I'd be playing Stardew Valley or Space Engineers. I don't see me wanting to plant anything in Elite Dangerous, other than flowers on the NPC that me off enough to drive them into the surface of a planet.
