Exploration ASP or ANACONDA

Issue I found with the anaconda is that in order to get a great jump range out of it, you need to sacrifice being able to boost and also shield strength. Not an issue when in the void, but very much so once you get back to inhabited space

I spent months flying my trader anaconda shieldless in open. Complete waste of time equipping an explorer conda with shields, can't even think of a time I required boost on any of my explorer ships ,except when messing about blasting through asteroid fields.

I am just planing a trip too.

What about a Python as Explorer?
I flew a cargo anaconda the last 2 or 3 weeks and have enough and I miss landing at the outposts which a python can do.

Are there any outposts or station out there the usual bubble at all or are this trips where you can never land anywhere till you are back?
Say I fly to the pleiades or the orion cloud can I land there somehwere?

Currently running in the Meringue 34.75LY jumps:

But my next set of travels will be in a 'conda, if I can afford it, probably a mining/exploring 'conda.

Just curious, why the 2 cargo racks?

Anaconda - the maintenance fees are practically non-existant and have been for ages.

Depending on how you fit it, you can get the conda up to 41 LY - that's a big difference from the asp's 35 LY and will save you many jumps, both by allowing you to jump to fewer actual stars, and by allowing the route planner to plot a more linear course. Since jumps are what take up the most time in exploration (you're looking at around a minute each, give or take), it's well worth it just for the hours saved going both ways.

To put it another way- the difference between the Conda and the Asp is like the difference between the Asp and the Cobra - yes you can explore in the latter, but why would you given the opportunity to do it in the former?

I understand what you say and I'm really aware of the jumps but, when exploring, isn't it desirable to explore as many systems as possible, even if your ultimate goal is Sag A?

I would go with the Asp too but as I can't afford an Annaconda yet, I'm probably biased.
If you need help with outfitting here's mine:

If that was me, I would go with the 3A power plant. You would need to disable only one auto-field maintenance unit and your jump would be reduced only from 34.41 to 34.3. I would say it's fairly unnoticeable, but I could be wrong.

some people equip empty cargo racks to allow them to adjust jump range in the gal map. Speaking from personal experience - I took a T9 to the Core and a Asp on a ultra long tour.. When you want to get somewhere fast (or get home) You want to be cruising in a Conda

I am thinking of doing the sag run, I have both an Asp and Anaconda, but not sure which one to take. credits are not an issue.

My conundrum is this, the Asp will make navigating around in super cruise a lot easier as it is more maneuverable and its cheaper to replace if something catastrophic happens. BUT. The Anaconda can take a lot more along with it such as repair modules, heat sinks etc..

Any suggestions, thoughts, ideas?

The Anaconda for its speed and reach. My first trip home from Sag A* in an Asp felt really long, second and third time back in StarGazer felt much better (and faster).

In the Buckyball Sag A* race, the fastest Anaconda time is 8h 43min, the best Asp is 9h 17min. I've no idea how either of them managed to do it that quickly, but it does show that the Asp isn't as far behind the Conda as the raw figures would indicate.

I've been wondering the very same thing myself, and have come to the very alluring conclusion that Esvandiary's record time can be improved :)

Super cruise navigation is easier with the asp, and the cockpit view is much better. Since one of the points of exploring is to watch the scenery, I'd go with an Asp.
Also, the anaconda can jump farther but consumes more fuel, meaning it's easier to get stuck in an area with few scoopables and need backtracking.
All in all the jump range isn't that important for long trips. (in days, not in distance) What's important is how fast you can scan and move in SC. Which is why I'd even advise a Clipper if you don't plan to be away for very long.
I have not tested the diamondback yet, improved maneuverabilty when coming out of hyperspace might be worth it in some cases.

Been to Sag A in both.. Conda if you're in a hurry, but the ASP is a much more explorer friendly experience. Nothing beats the view in an ASP.
