Exploration barrier dissapointment

Whats the score with Barnards loop and the nebulas around that area. it seems that every direction from here on is blocked by entire sectors that need a permit.

Is it actually possible to get these permits?

You can't get them right now, those are areas Frontier has locked for upcoming content.

You can get round them though (don't forget you can go up or down as well...)

The Col70 sector is a large sphere of permit-locked space, inside of which are several smaller spheres of non-permit-locked space. So structurally, it's kind of like a partly-eaten chocolate Easter egg, hollowed out but with only a fairly narrow "hole" to fly into and out of. To get out, you've basically got to go back the way you came, towards the inhabited bubble, before swinging back around again.

It wouldn't be so bad, if the navicomputer could figure out a path out of it and around the permit locks, but it struggles - it just sees all the permit-locks, and gives up.

My map (link in sig) may be helpful to you if you want to plot a course around and through that area.

Thankyou, the map is very helpful.

I now see that on the one time I go exploring since launch, I picked the one direction that is blocked to me, I wish I had seen this map before I started.

Highlight of the trip so far was the Witch head nebula asteriod station. Also reaching the bottom of the Milky way where I ran out of stars that I could reach

I'm at Barnard's Loop at the moment and ran into the same problem as you. I managed to fly from the Flame to Horsehead Nebula by going over the Loop and then making a beeline for its centre.

Something worth mentioning, a short cut - if you have a decent jump range on your ship, navigate down to around (320,-370,-600) in SYNUEFE and you should be able to leap directly over a thin slice of COL 70 directly into WITCH HEAD SECTOR.
