I propose an 'I'm associated with' the 'Orion's End' explorers. A group sort of thing.
the Orion arm is the closest arm to Sol, or likely colonized space and the various empires.
I will found it, if needed, as that is where I am going first. At the end, then cross the void to the Carina-sagittarius arm and continue toward its end.
While I like the 'straight out' idea, it's not that far to the edge of the galaxy.
It is apparently less interesting that way, but it may also be hidden from the dust lane down the arm, as we are looking down to the end.
